Description: Perplexity promotional trials require a valid card. Existing trial users who receive a payment-method notice have seven days from the first notification before their access falls back to Free. Here's what happens to lost days, billing and cancellation.

Yes. Perplexity says a valid credit or debit card is required to activate and maintain a promotional or trial subscription. If you are already using a promotion and receive a request to add a card, you have seven days from the original notification. Miss that window and your account moves to Free. Adding a valid card later restores promotional access immediately, but the interrupted days are not added to the trial.[1][2]

Is the seven-day deadline for everyone?

There are two different situations. New customers are asked for a payment method during signup or redemption. Existing trial or promotional users face the seven-day deadline when Perplexity sends them a card-request notification. The company lists email and an in-app banner as notification channels. The published help does not give a single worldwide rollout date or a precise cutoff hour.[1]

Your situation What happens
Redeeming a new trial or partner offer Add a valid credit or debit card at redemption
Already on a promotion; card notice received Add the card within seven days of the first notice
No card added by that deadline Account drops to Free
Valid card added after the downgrade Promotional access resumes immediately; missed days are lost
Trial ends without cancellation Standard monthly or annual subscription renews automatically

Will the free trial charge my card now?

Perplexity states that it does not charge for the promotional period itself. The important date is the end of that period: unless you cancel, the selected plan renews at its regular price. Check the actual offer's end date, billing frequency and renewal price. The seven-day card deadline and the subscription renewal date are two separate clocks.[2]

Where should you add a card or cancel?

For a web-managed Perplexity promotion, open Settings, find Subscription, select Manage Plan, and update Billing and Shipping Information. Do not buy another subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play merely to update the web account's payment details; Perplexity warns that this can create a second chargeable subscription.[2]

To cancel, use the platform where you purchased the subscription: Perplexity settings for web purchases, Apple Subscriptions for App Store purchases, or Google Play subscriptions for Android purchases. Deleting the account is not a substitute for cancellation.[3]

When did this rule start?

The billing FAQ was last modified October 13, 2026, and the plan comparison help on October 8, 2026. Those are document revision dates, not a confirmed universal effective date. The pages do not provide country-by-country start dates. Treat your own first notice and account billing screen as the practical references.[1][2]

Bottom line: A “free trial” can have two very real deadlines: seven days to supply a card after a notice, and the trial's end date before paid renewal. Read both before deciding to ignore the banner.
