Description: Zoom video could rotate 90 degrees on an external monitor in Pixel 9 Pro Fold desktop mode. See the exact reported setup, safe checks, workaround and Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 fix.
If Zoom looks upright on your phone but sideways on the external monitor, your symptom matches a documented Android desktop-mode issue. Google marked issue 432390710 fixed and listed the camera rotation among the changes in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1, released October 2, 2026. That confirms a beta fix, not delivery to every stable device.[1][2]
What actually happened?
The July 17, 2025 report involved a Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Android 16 beta build BP31.250523.010, and Zoom 6.5.3.31278. Opening a meeting in desktop mode on the second display rotated the built-in camera feed by 90 degrees. The same meeting on the phone screen was upright. The reporter said other participants saw the sideways image too.[1]
A later test found that selecting an external USB camera restored the correct orientation, while switching back to the built-in camera brought the problem back. This is one user's observation, not a guaranteed USB-webcam fix. Google marked the issue fixed on September 11, 2026 and included it in the October 2 release notes.[1][2]
Check it safely before your meeting
- Open Settings → About phone → Android version and note your build. QPR3 Beta 1 uses
DP11.260918.005on the Pixel 11 family andDP11.260918.006on other supported Pixels.[2][3] - Use Zoom's preview or a private test meeting to compare the phone screen and the external monitor in desktop mode.
- If only the monitor image rotates, record the phone model, Android build, Zoom version and selected camera. Auto-rotate settings do not necessarily control the camera stream.
- For an urgent meeting, run Zoom on the phone screen. If you already own a compatible USB webcam, testing it is optional.
- If you already use a beta, check Settings → System → Software update for an official update.[3]
| Observation | Next step |
|---|---|
| Phone upright, external image sideways | Closely matches issue 432390710; use the phone screen |
| Both views sideways | Check app orientation and other causes |
| Works in QPR3 Beta 1 | Consistent with Google's fix, not proof for every model |
| Still broken after updating | Report the build, Zoom version and monitor connection |
Should you reset or install beta?
Do not switch a stable daily-use phone to beta solely for this camera issue. Google's Beta Program warns that returning to a stable release can wipe locally stored data and may complicate restoring backups. Clearing Zoom data, factory-resetting the phone or flashing firmware is disproportionate as a first response.[4]
The evidence supports a reproducible Pixel 9 Pro Fold report and Google's fix announcement. The precise internal cause remains unconfirmed in public documentation, and similar issues on other brands should not automatically be treated as identical.
Bottom line
The external-monitor 90-degree Zoom camera issue is listed as fixed in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1. Compare the two screens, keep the meeting on the working display, and check official updates before risking data loss.
