Description: Learn how to beat the browser puzzle Choo Choo Mania, including mouse and keyboard controls, track connections, tunnels, keys, gates, pre-laid rails, and common mistakes.

Quick answer: Draw a continuous rail between each pair of matching-colour stations without crossing another rail. The October 22 update adds tunnels, keys and gates, and colour-coded pre-laid tracks. Survey the board first and reserve narrow corridors for routes that cannot easily go elsewhere; that planning advice is a deduction from the rules, not a proven optimal route for every level.[1][2]

Play free: https://featurekreep.itch.io/choo-choo-mania. FeatureKreep published this PICO-8 browser game on October 21, 2026, describing 24 puzzles playable in roughly ten minutes or less at launch.[1][3]

Controls and win condition

With a mouse, drag from one station all the way onto the other station of the same colour. With a keyboard, move the cursor using the arrow keys and hold Z (the PICO-8 O button) over a station to start placing rails. Each completed connection must avoid crossing other lines. A player specifically reported that stopping on the cell next to the destination does not register the connection; the developer acknowledged that usability issue.[1][4]

Start-to-finish problem-solving checklist

When What to do What it achieves Evidence
A board appears Identify every matching station pair and likely bottlenecks Reveals the routes you need [1]; planning is advice
Using the mouse Drag from the first station onto its matching destination cell Completes a station-to-station rail [1][4]
Using the keyboard Move with arrows and hold Z while laying the route Draws rails without a mouse [1]
Two routes would cross Reroute one through free cells before committing Respects the no-crossing rule [1]; tactic inferred
A tunnel appears Treat its two mouths as connected by underground railway Carries a route between distant surface cells [2]
A gate blocks the way Draw a rail across the key tile first Unlocks the corresponding gate [2]
Coloured rails are already drawn Join those pieces to the appropriate colour route Incorporates mandatory pre-laid track [2]
The puzzle seems complete but stays open Check whether each rail actually enters its destination station Catches an incomplete final cell [1][4]

A reliable way to think through harder boards

Work backwards from constrained cells. Look at narrow passages, tunnel mouths, gates and fixed coloured rails before drawing your easiest pair. If you consume the only passage with an easy route, a later colour may have no non-crossing path. This is a practical reasoning method, not a verified map-by-map solution.[1][2]

The October 22 changes matter. A tunnel connects two exits underground. A key must have a track placed on its tile to unblock a gate. Pre-laid tracks come in four colours and must connect to the corresponding railway. A walkthrough recorded before the update can miss all three mechanics.[2]

Why a connection fails

First, drag onto the station itself rather than releasing on the adjacent square. Next, check whether another rail has cut off the remaining pair. On puzzle 24, one player also reported flickering tracks when dragging from a tunnel exit toward tree tiles. Treat that as a reported visual bug, not permission to lay track through trees.[4]

Verification limit: The exact cell-by-cell solutions for all 24 boards, the complete post-update board layouts, and the final completion screen have not been independently reproduced. This is a full mechanics-and-troubleshooting guide, not a falsely claimed 24-level answer key. Spoilers cover puzzle mechanics, not every board's finished layout.

Bottom line

Connect matching stations all the way to their destination cells, keep rails from crossing, and plan around tunnels, keys, gates and fixed tracks. Cute trains; surprisingly unforgiving traffic planning.[1][2][4]
