2030 is not a confirmed release year. On January 28, 2026, creator Eric Barone, known as ConcernedApe, corrected that interpretation himself. As of October 25, the game has no announced release date, but his August 30 post describes productive development and an unfinished game he already enjoys playing.

Where the 2030 claim began

In 2025 someone asked whether he hoped to release the game within the next five years. Barone said he hoped so. A wish was gradually repeated as though it were a firm date. His January clarification distinguished hope from a launch commitment.

Why some fans worry

Haunted Chocolatier was announced in October 2021. Under Nintendo Life's August 31, 2025 coverage of Stardew Valley update 1.7, individual readers wondered whether the new game would ever arrive and wished the creator would focus on it. These are documented comments, not a measure of the entire fanbase. In December 2024 Barone acknowledged that Stardew Valley 1.6 work had taken time away from the new project. By September 2025, however, he said a small team was helping with 1.7 while he acted more as creative director and kept most of his attention on Haunted Chocolatier.

What actually happened in 2026

On June 25, Barone described repeatedly refining the chocolate-making recipe book, down to information layout and the number of clicks. On August 30, he reported a productive stretch and said the unfinished game was already fun. The official FAQ describes gathering ingredients in a haunted castle, making chocolate and selling it in a shop, with more action RPG emphasis than Stardew Valley. Only PC and English are firmly confirmed so far; other platforms and languages remain intentions rather than dated launches.

Bottom line

The 2030 rumor turns a hope into a promise that was never made. Barone has also rejected abandonment claims, and concrete development work continues. A carefully polished recipe book is a better clue than an invented calendar deadline.
