Balatro update 1.1 is still being developed as of October 25, 2026. It has no confirmed release date, and neither a 2026 launch nor a move to 2027 has been officially scheduled. In September, solo creator LocalThunk discussed new Jokers and gameplay changes while declining to set another deadline.

Why did the original release window disappear?

Balatro turns familiar poker hands into a score-chasing card game. Jokers modify the rules, while vouchers and shop purchases make one run wildly different from the next. A major free gameplay update was originally targeted for 2025. On September 12 of that year, LocalThunk explained on his own blog that the target would be missed.

After the February 2024 launch, a balance patch and the mobile version, he had burned himself out. He decided to work at a sustainable hobbyist pace rather than return to exhausting hours. The important distinction is that he withdrew the 2025 deadline; he did not replace it with a guaranteed 2026 deadline. His stated plan was to release 1.1 when it was ready.

What are players actually asking?

A March 8, 2026 Reddit discussion began with a simple question: when would the game get more content, particularly new Jokers? Replies ranged from speculation about 2026 to encouragement not to pressure the developer. One mobile-focused player also noted that community-made additions are less straightforward for their preferred way of playing. These are specific comments, not a poll of the player base.

The worry makes sense in the context of the game. A new Joker is not merely a collectible picture: it can make an overlooked poker hand viable or turn a modest run into a ridiculous scoring machine. Players want fresh interactions, and silence about the calendar can feel like silence about the project.

What did September 2026 actually reveal?

PC Gamer reported on September 16 that LocalThunk had spoken in Balatro's Discord the previous day. The reported plans included at least four new Jokers, a second-tier voucher called Lunker, changes to how the next voucher is selected, and a Blue Stake rework. The developer also made clear that he would not promise a launch window. These details come from reporting on his messages, rather than a published final patch list.

There's a design reason to be cautious. A new card effect can interact with drawing order, shop odds and existing Jokers in ways that reshape entire strategies. That's an interpretation, not an announced explanation for the delay, but it helps show why adding four cards is not necessarily four isolated tasks. LocalThunk said he did not want a rushed update to damage the game he enjoys playing.

Bottom line: watch the cards, not an invented countdown

There is concrete evidence of active work and a commitment to a free update for owners on all platforms. The remaining unknown is the release calendar, including any platform-specific timing. A fan prediction about 2027 is still a prediction.

For a game built around surprising combinations, the strongest September clue was not a date circled in red. It was a handful of new Jokers waiting to change the rules.
