There is no announced return of the original live-action actors as the English-language voices of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 as of October 25, 2026. Season 2 arrived on September 17 with the animated show's own performers still in place. Netflix currently lists two seasons; that is evidence of what has been released, not a Season 3 casting announcement.
Why does Steve sound different too?
Tales From ’85 takes Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max back to a snowy Hawkins in early 1985. It is a new animated adventure, rather than a redub of scenes from the live-action series. The characters are familiar, which makes their new voices especially noticeable.
Netflix's March 26 cast guide identifies Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Brett Gipson as Hopper and Jeremy Jordan as Steve. The changes therefore extend beyond the younger characters. A quick explanation that the original child actors are now adults may help explain one consideration, but it cannot, by itself, explain why Hopper and Steve also have different performers.
What did viewers actually ask?
An April 18 Reddit thread directly asked whether everyone had been recast. The original poster understood changing the children's voices but wondered about older characters such as Steve. Responses proposed several explanations: the ages of the original performers, the cost of hiring an established television cast, and the suitability of dedicated voice actors.
Those are viewers' theories, not confirmed production reasons. The official Netflix cast list tells us who performs each role. It does not establish a specific contract dispute, budget decision, or refusal by any individual actor. A thread about recasting is also not a survey of all Stranger Things fans.
What Season 2 settled — and what it didn't
Netflix's September 17 Season 2 article names Norstedt, Diaz, Quinney, Gipson and Jordan again. The new cast was not a one-season placeholder: the same English-language approach carried into the second run. The new episodes follow the Hawkins Investigators Club as it encounters fresh supernatural trouble; the point here is the casting, so no finale spoilers are needed.
For any possible Season 3, the useful signals would be a formal renewal and an updated cast announcement. Neither an actor's social-media speculation nor an assumption based on the live-action finale can replace those. Dubbing in other countries is a separate issue: a local-language voice can change even when the English original does not, and vice versa.
The answer behind the familiar faces
The animated series is asking new performers to make old friendships feel alive. The confirmed pattern through Season 2 is continuity within the animated cast, not a return to the live-action voices. That can be disappointing if a character's voice is part of what made Hawkins feel like home; it can also give the animation room to sound like its own adventure.
Hawkins has always made the ordinary feel slightly wrong. Hearing Steve speak in a different voice might be the least dangerous version of that trick.
