Yes, Skyborne are getting old-school, low-poly character models—but not for the November 4, 2026 launch. Blizzard says their Standard Definition (SD) models, including Druid forms, are coming in early 2027. That timing matters if the whole reason you're returning to Azeroth is to see it through 2004-era eyes.

One new race in an old-looking world

World of Warcraft: Forever revisits the original Azeroth with new adventures. Existing races can switch between HD and SD character models. Skyborne, the newly introduced blue-skinned elves, currently stand out in the beta because they have no SD option. Picture a party of chunky Classic characters joined by someone who looks as though they wandered in from a much newer expansion.

That's close to what some players objected to in the r/classicwow Skyborne feedback thread. One commenter felt the race's appearance and Druid forms had a modern-WoW vibe; another said they were excited about Forever overall but disappointed by the new race. These are documented opinions, not a vote on what every player thinks.

The specific fix Blizzard has promised

Blizzard acknowledged the mismatch in an official visual-update post reported on October 7. It showed work on the HD Druid forms, with less soft-looking fur and more restrained colors to fit the surrounding creatures. The bigger answer is explicit: SD Skyborne characters and SD Druid forms are in development for early 2027. That's an announced plan, although there isn't an exact release day yet.

The base Forever experience launches November 4 at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time and is included with WoW subscription or game time. Playing as Skyborne, however, requires an eligible optional upgrade pack. Don't confuse buying access to the race with having its retro models available on day one.

Blizzard can make polygons sharper or softer. The tougher design test is whether this brand-new elf eventually feels as if it has always belonged in old Azeroth. Early 2027 will be a particularly interesting before-and-after comparison.
