Description: A 17 October 2026 segment of the Japanese variety show Waratte Koraete turned a small travel secret into a comedy moment. Here is why Jinto Yoshida reacted so strongly to Shunta Sono's Kanazawa sushi dinner.
Jinto Yoshida called Shunta Sono “the worst” because Sono had arrived early for a work trip to eat sushi in Kanazawa without him. While Sono enjoyed premium seafood, Yoshida had eaten a simple beef rice bowl the previous evening. Their exchange aired on Nippon TV's 1-oku Nin no Daishitsumon!? Waratte Koraete! on Saturday, 17 October 2026, between 7:56 and 8:54 p.m. Japan time.
A confession, not a feud
The Japanese programme's long-running “Apologise to the Camera” segment invites guests to admit a small secret or apologise directly to someone they know. The people involved here are members of M!LK, a five-member Japanese male dance-and-vocal group. Sono and Yoshida had previously filmed a travel challenge in Ishikawa Prefecture, visiting roadside markets and guessing each location's best-selling product. They were not random celebrities meeting for the first time.
The original plan was for both performers to travel to Ishikawa together before the shoot. Sono's schedule changed, and he reached the region earlier. The confession revealed why that change suited him so well: he wanted to eat sushi in Kanazawa, a city famous in Japan for seafood.
The moment the joke landed
Sono cheerfully admitted he had eaten plenty of delicious sushi on his own. Yoshida responded with an exaggerated accusation: “The worst!” Yet he immediately asked which piece had tasted best. Sono named aburi nodoguro, lightly seared blackthroat seaperch, a prized fish associated with Japan's Hokuriku coast.
Then Yoshida delivered the detail that made the imbalance impossible to miss: he had eaten gyudon the night before. Gyudon is a common, relatively inexpensive Japanese bowl of beef and rice. There is nothing wrong with gyudon; the comedy is that one bandmate had deliberately arranged a special seafood evening while the other had simply grabbed an everyday meal.
Why is the exchange funny?
The apology opens like a serious confession, but the secret is a very ordinary form of food envy. Yoshida appears furious, then cannot resist asking for the menu. Every answer makes his own dinner seem less glamorous. The contrast moves from “you went without me” to “you even had seared premium fish” and finally to “I had a beef bowl.”
That escalation matters more than the isolated word “worst”. The available programme account presents a playful on-camera exchange between colleagues, not evidence of a lasting falling-out. The laughter comes from disproportionate outrage over a perfectly understandable desire: being invited to the better dinner.
A different M!LK apology in the same show
Another member, Daichi Shiozaki, apologised for falling asleep during late-night remote group meetings. He said he normally goes to bed at midnight. That was a separate confession, not part of Sono's sushi trip.
The answer in one line
Sono secretly enjoyed Kanazawa sushi, including seared nodoguro; Yoshida had gyudon. The funniest part is that Yoshida kept asking what he missed while complaining about missing it.
