Description: The Minecraft animated series announced by Netflix in 2024 went quiet. Here is why fans worried, what Mojang and Netflix confirmed in August 2026, and why proposed release years are only estimates.

Netflix's Minecraft animated series was still in production according to the latest confirmations available on October 20, 2026. Mojang's Jens Bergensten confirmed ongoing work on August 28, and Netflix separately confirmed the project to What's on Netflix. No premiere date has been announced.[1][2]

A separate project from the movie

The CG series was announced in May 2024 during Minecraft's fifteenth anniversary. WildBrain, associated with Sonic Prime, is involved. The plan is an original story featuring new characters.[3] This is not the live-action film or the older interactive Minecraft: Story Mode.

Why did fans fear cancellation?

Early artwork and creative-team details appeared at the Annecy animation festival in June 2025. A substantial update was missing from Netflix's 2026 presentation. What's on Netflix reported worried discussions on social media and Reddit about the possibility that the show had been quietly shelved.[1]

The long silence matters because audiences cannot tell whether the project is progressing. But a missing trailer proves only that a trailer has not been released, not that work has stopped.

What did Mojang and Netflix actually say?

On August 28, Bergensten replied to a question on Bluesky, saying the team was still working on the show. What's on Netflix also received confirmation from a Netflix representative.[1][2] Neither statement establishes how many episodes are finished, whether voices have been recorded, or when the first full trailer will appear.

Does this mean a 2027 or 2028 premiere?

What's on Netflix suggested those years based on animation production timelines. They are the outlet's estimates, not Netflix release windows.[1] Watch for an official trailer, new character information, and a dated announcement instead.

The creative challenge is intriguing: Minecraft lets players invent their own adventures, while a television series must choose one adventure without losing that freedom.

Bottom line

The cancellation concern has an answer: production was confirmed ongoing in August 2026. The release date remains open. Minecraft worlds are built block by block; fans would appreciate a new block of official information now and then.
