Description: A Proton user reported an alarming system warning after getting Genshin Impact running. Here’s what the warning establishes—and what it doesn't.
Short answer: An on-screen warning is not proof that an account has been banned. It is not a guarantee of safety, either.
In an October 2026 Genshin Impact help thread, a player was trying to launch the game on CachyOS using Wine and Steam’s Proton. After reporting that it finally ran, the player returned on October 4 with a new problem: a message about unusual activity in the operating system.
That sequence is worth separating into three parts. The game launched. A warning appeared. The cause—and any action against the account—was not established. A Reddit troubleshooting exchange cannot confirm a universal ban policy for Linux users, and a successful launch does not turn an unsupported setup into an officially supported one.
The publisher’s Epic Games Store listing specifies 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 for its PC version. It does not list Linux there. That tells you which operating systems the listing covers; it does not establish that this particular warning was caused by Proton.
If you see the message, save its exact wording and the time, stop experimenting with suggested workarounds, and contact official customer support. Treat claims like “everyone gets banned” or “it can never happen” as guesses unless the publisher confirms them.
Bottom line: Don’t confuse a warning with a verdict. And don’t confuse “I got it to launch” with “my account is definitely safe.” Teyvat has enough mysteries already.
