A player flails his arms in a ridiculous run. A soaring, earnest song comes on. Instead of an epic sports highlight, you are watching the “Turn To Your Neighbor and Say” meme: a joke that gives a spectacularly unheroic moment a heroic soundtrack.

The audio comes from Marvin Sapp's 2017 song “Listen.” Its invitation to address the person beside you sounds sincere and communal. The wildly swinging arms have a different origin. In a March 2020 reaction video, creator Cash Nasty exaggerated the way FlightReacts ran during a one-on-one basketball game against Miles Brown. The movement was already funny without an orchestra of emotional support.

In September and October 2026, TikTok and Instagram users began bringing the elements together. A September 20 edit used the music over sports lowlights. On October 4, another video highlighted people dropping a moving image of Cash Nasty into comment sections with the musical cue. By October 8, someone was physically reenacting the arm movement.

Why does the combination work? The soundtrack seems to promise an inspirational breakthrough; the picture delivers somebody running as though their elbows have received separate instructions. No complex lore required. Just the enormous gap between how important a moment sounds and how gloriously awkward it looks.

The song is giving a standing ovation. The feet are still figuring out which direction to go.
