A new monthly limit is coming in November 2026. Here's what the clock applies to—and what it doesn't.

Short answer: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will include 15 hours of cloud streaming per month, not 15 hours of gaming in total. Downloaded games played locally on a console or PC are not subject to this cloud allowance. If you run out of streaming time, Xbox says you'll be able to buy more.

The clock starts on the cloud, not your console

Xbox confirmed the change on September 3, 2026: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential each month, starting in November. Fifteen hours sounds generous until you spread it across a month. A daily 30-minute cloud session would use roughly that entire allowance in 30 days. That's barely enough time to get lost in a sprawling RPG's side quests.

This isn't just a theoretical complaint. In a September Xbox Game Pass community discussion, a player who relied heavily on cloud sessions worried about dropping from unlimited streaming to 15 hours. Xbox estimates that about 4% of subscribers will be affected; that is the company's projection, not a measured final count.

Does hitting the cap erase a save?

No save deletion was announced. The policy concerns cloud playtime, not game ownership or local play. If you're using an older console or a phone to stream a game you cannot install there, though, that distinction won't make the new ceiling any less real. You'll need another way to play or additional cloud hours.

Xbox has not yet published the cost of extra hours, exact launch day in November, or full market details as of October 13. The limit isn't on every Xbox game. It's on the remote machine you're borrowing to run it.
