Description: Pixel battery draining while idle on Android 17 QPR2 beta? Google fixed a Flip to Shhh deep-sleep bug in Beta 7. Check the build and avoid a data-wiping rollback.

If your Pixel loses unusual amounts of battery while untouched on Android 17 QPR2 beta, check Flip to Shhh. Google confirmed that the gesture could prevent deep sleep and fixed it in Beta 7, build CP41.260831.016, released October 9, 2026.[1]

Why does a sleeping phone use power?

Flip to Shhh silences interruptions when the Pixel is placed face down. On affected beta builds, it could keep the device from entering its deepest power-saving state. The screen was off, but the system was still working. Google tracked the defect as #560036427 and #569079944.[1] This is a QPR2 beta issue, not proof that every phone running stable Android 17 is affected.

Check before changing anything

  1. Open Settings → About phone → Build number. The fixed build is CP41.260831.016.
  2. Find Settings → System → Gestures → Flip to Shhh and note whether it is on.[2]
  3. Turn it off temporarily and compare battery loss after similar idle periods with similar reception. Automatic face-down silencing will be unavailable during the test.
  4. Check Settings → Battery → Battery usage for background apps and screen time.

The safe fix and the rollback trap

Beta participants can check Settings → System → Software update for Beta 7 or a compatible newer build. Use the built-in updater.[1][3] Leaving the Android Beta Program to return to stable Android normally wipes locally stored data. Google allows limited no-wipe exit windows around certain stable releases, but read the warning on your own device and back up photos first.[3]

Google also lists a separate Beta 7 issue: some Pixel 11 Pro Fold users may need to re-enroll Face Unlock.[1]

Bottom line

The Flip to Shhh deep-sleep bug was fixed in QPR2 Beta 7. Check your build, test the gesture and use the official update. Don't turn a battery complaint into a lost-photos incident.
