Sombra can no longer use her old Hack to lock an opponent out of their abilities. Blizzard removed it on October 6, 2026, and moved her from Damage to Support. She still interferes with enemy equipment, but her main disruption tool now weakens opponents instead of silencing them.
Why losing Hack feels like losing Sombra
For years, the thrill of playing Sombra was choosing that exact moment to emerge from stealth and interrupt someone’s plan. It was miserable for the victim—and a perfectly timed play for the Sombra player. That tension was part of her identity.
Blizzard says sudden ability lockouts were frustrating to face. The October 6 patch removed regular Hack and Virus, then rebuilt Sombra around healing and weakening enemies. This is more than a small balance tweak: players who practiced her old duels are learning another job.
The hacker is still meddling—just differently
Hotfix heals teammates and can still hack health packs and most enemy deployable objects. Cyberspace creates a field that heals allies while cutting affected enemies’ damage and healing output by 50%. It disrupts a fight without pressing a temporary “no abilities” button on an opponent.
On October 7, one longtime Sombra player wrote that the new Support version struggled in the one-on-one fights they used to enjoy. On October 10, another player praised the rework because she finally felt like a genuine Support rather than an underpowered Damage hero. Both reactions make sense: they want different things from the same character.
What happens next?
The October 6 changes are official. Any later balance adjustments need their own announcement. For now, the question is less “Can Sombra still be annoying?” and more “Can a player who loved interrupting enemies fall in love with saving teammates?” Same hacker, different target for that split-second decision.
