Description: NBA 2K25 leaves sale on October 30, 2026, and MyCAREER becomes inaccessible on January 1, 2027. Here's what owners can still play offline.
No. NBA 2K25's MyCAREER becomes unavailable on January 1, 2027, even if you play alone. Publisher 2K says existing owners can still redownload the game and use selected offline modes. Keeping the game and keeping every mode are two different things.[1]
Three dates with different consequences
NBA 2K25 launched in September 2024. You can build a player's career in MyCAREER, assemble a team in MyTEAM, or jump into a match with Play Now. October 30, 2026 ends new sales; December 31 is the final online-service day; January 1, 2027 is when connected features stop working. The notice was updated on October 2.[1]
If you already own the game, delisting doesn't erase your download entitlement. But ownership doesn't convert a connected career into an offline campaign.
Why does a solo career need servers?
MyCAREER feels like a personal basketball story, not necessarily a multiplayer experience. Yet its progression and Virtual Currency (VC) rely on online systems. 2K explicitly names MyCAREER and MyTEAM as ending, alongside multiplayer, Online Leagues, community sharing and earning VC.[1][2]
In an October 5 r/PlayStationPlus discussion, users criticized the loss of the career story in a game previously offered as a monthly title. These are real reactions in one thread, not a survey of every player.[3]
What can you keep playing?
The publisher lists Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA as playable offline. Any server-dependent extras within those experiences still end. The announcement doesn't explain refunds or transfers for unused VC, so don't treat online guesses as official policy.[1]
Finish any MyCAREER chapters or games you care about before December ends. Screenshots can preserve memories, but they won't transfer your created player's progress.
Bottom line: The court stays open, but your custom star's career hears the final buzzer. Whether NBA 2K25 “still works” in 2027 depends on the mode you mean.
