Description: Learn the actual controls and scoring rules of Raining Money, including the SHOP coin, 30-second difficulty increases and the v1.1 missed-coin penalty. A practical high-score route for browser players.

To improve your score in Raining Money, click or tap falling coins before they escape, bank enough cash before shopping, and watch the on-screen MISS penalty when buying upgrades. This is an escalating score-attack game, not a level-based adventure with a final boss. The useful goal is to survive longer and beat your locally saved best score. Play free on itch.io.

Controls and where to play

Launch the HTML5 version using Run game on the official page. Click coins with a mouse or tap them on a phone. Catch the turquoise SHOP coin to freeze the falling coins and open the upgrade screen. Pause and audio buttons are at the top right. No account or mandatory advertisements are required.

A complete high-score run, step by step

  1. Protect your starting balance. Catch each falling coin while it is still on screen. Caught coins add money; missed coins deduct it. Prefer reliable catches over frantic tapping across the whole screen.
  2. Adjust every 30 seconds. New denominations arrive, while the rain becomes faster and denser. A pattern that works during the opening may fail once several coins are falling together.
  3. Recognize the special SHOP coin. The turquoise coin opens a paused shop. Its two upgrade types are a permanent coin-value multiplier and two minutes of slowed time.
  4. Check the downside before buying. In v1.1, every coin-value upgrade doubles the damage from a missed coin. Spending most of your balance and raising your MISS penalty together makes a run fragile.
  5. Compare runs against your saved record. Try a conservative run and an upgrade-heavy run. The game stores a local best score, but the public description does not establish a universal best purchase order or fixed SHOP frequency.

The v1.1 MISS formula, explained

The developer's October 22 v1.1 post says missed-coin damage starts at 1, doubles with each coin-value upgrade, and doubles again after every 50 player taps. A direct mathematical restatement is MISS = 2^(value upgrades + completed 50-tap blocks). This is a calculation from the published rule, not an independent inspection of the game code.

Value upgrades 0–49 taps 50–99 taps 100–149 taps
0 1 2 4
1 2 4 8
2 4 8 16

For example, two value upgrades and 100 taps imply a MISS penalty of 16. Taps should not automatically be treated as successful catches. The live MISS number is the final reference. Version 1.1 also adds scientific notation for large values and colored rims to help distinguish them. If the main page's older wording about losing a missed coin's face value seems inconsistent, prefer the later changelog and the current game display.

What if the SHOP is unaffordable?

One early player comment reported reaching the first shop without missing a coin, yet being unable to afford either option and never seeing a second SHOP coin. That is a single player's observation, not evidence of fixed prices or guaranteed spawn timing. Keep catching normal coins if you cannot afford an upgrade. If a purchase appears to end a run quickly, compare your remaining balance with the now-higher MISS value. Exact shop costs, spawn intervals and any terminal balance threshold were not independently established from the available official pages.

Bottom line

For v1.1, the winning mindset is not “buy everything.” It is keep enough money to survive the next mistake. Catch steadily, adapt every 30 seconds, take the turquoise SHOP coin when it appears and let the MISS indicator determine how aggressive your upgrades can be.
