Yes, but not as your old purchases. After Ascension's World of Warcraft-based realms closed in September 2026, the team said Donor Points you had already spent would be credited as a new currency for exclusive founder cosmetics in its upcoming original MMO.
The world disappeared before players were ready
Ascension was more than a place to level a character. Players had built unusual combinations of abilities, made friends and planned what to do next. When the team announced the shutdown in late August following an agreement with Blizzard, one Reddit player wrote about unfinished plans and compared losing the server to losing a friend. Another reply questioned what happened to money players had put in. Those are different losses, and neither is solved by a shiny new logo.
A message from team member Dutch on the official Discord, documented on August 31, offered a concrete answer about continuity. Existing Ascension accounts would remain, and the current launcher would update when a playable alpha for the original game became available. Points previously spent would turn into founder currency earmarked for cosmetic items. That's a gesture toward supporters, not a promise to reproduce their WoW characters, gear or old cash-shop purchases.
There is one important gap: the announcement did not detail the treatment of unspent points, the exchange rate or the cosmetics themselves. Nor should an in-game credit be confused with a cash refund.
What should former players watch for?
The developers said they wanted a small, rough opt-in alpha, followed by changes shaped through feedback. The next meaningful news is the alpha's date and what players can actually do in it. The founder currency answers part of the money question; whether the new game feels like Ascension is the much bigger test.
