Looking for an indoor date in Japan? The usual ideas are a movie, karaoke or a private room. But around Yokkaichi, some love hotels have made the room itself the activity.
One room has a retro Nintendo Famicom console. Another has a giant projector and, oddly, a washing machine. There is even a bedroom with an artificial shooting-star effect. These are advertised room features, not a list of things available at every hotel.
The retro-game room that might keep you up all night
At MIO PLAZA, rooms 207 and 307 advertise a Famicom, karaoke, sauna and a way to cast phone content to the television.
Play an old game, sing a song, take a sauna break and return for another round. The hotel room starts to look less like somewhere to sleep and more like a private entertainment lounge with a bed.
MIO CITY has a similar idea in rooms 801 and 805, with karaoke, sauna and TV casting. The published description does not establish that these rooms also have a Famicom. That distinction matters if retro gaming is the reason you are going.
A private cinema, a sauna... and laundry?
Room 702 at Lukino includes a large projector, sauna, massage chair and washing machine. The first three sound like a luxury afternoon. The washing machine feels as though someone decided a mini-apartment was missing from the plan.
It is a wonderfully strange combination: cinematic escape meets household chores.
Christmas every day, with stars overhead
Near Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station, Blanc Chapel Christmas Yokkaichi advertises a shooting-star effect in the bedroom of room 704. Room 703 takes a palace-inspired approach and has karaoke and a sauna.
The hotel commits to its Christmas theme all year. It does not stop at hanging a decoration in the lobby.
Outdoor bathing without leaving your room
A little farther away in Suzuka, Fine Garden Suzuka lists an outdoor bath and steam sauna on the terrace of room 303. Room 305 also has a generous terrace with an outdoor bath.
Glow in Yokkaichi lists rock-bed bathing, steam saunas and projectors in selected rooms. Do not assume all three are in the same room: the listings mark these as features available only in some rooms.
Choose the room, not just the hotel
For retro games, check MIO PLAZA 207 or 307. For karaoke and sauna, look at MIO CITY 801 or 805. Lukino 702 is the cinema-and-relaxation option. Blanc Chapel 704 is the visual spectacle. Fine Garden Suzuka 303 or 305 is for outdoor bathing.
And beware the tempting “from” price. The cheapest room may not be the room with the feature you came for. For example, Fine Garden Suzuka's own rate page lists a ¥5,200 weekday short-stay base rate for its S category, with a separate 10% service charge. Dates, time limits and member discounts change the total.
A cinema is a destination. So is a karaoke bar. In these hotels, the room number becomes the destination.
