Description: Jagex cancelled RuneScape Reignited on October 15, 2026. Here's what happens to the December 2 beginner update, the membership trial and the 2027 roadmap.

RuneScape's 2027 roadmap is still planned, even though Reignited has been cancelled. In its October 15 statement, Jagex confirmed the cancellation of the proposed new character experience while reaffirming the December 2 Adventure Guide, the first phase of Remastered Journey and a limited free membership trial. The developer also explicitly reaffirmed its 2027 plans. A roadmap remains a plan, not a guarantee that every update will ship on a fixed date.[1]

What did Jagex actually cancel?

Announced at RuneFest on October 3, Reignited proposed a fresh-start character type with a separate economy, trading arrangements and rankings. It raised questions about paying for another membership and whether existing characters would be pushed into a quieter, less valued part of the game. On October 15, Jagex cancelled that proposal rather than merely postponing it. The announcement did not shut down the main RuneScape game.[1]

Why the reaction was about more than a new mode

In an October 13 Reddit post, a long-time player urged Jagex to continue its Road to Restoration instead of launching Reignited. Following the cancellation, an October 16 discussion encouraged players to bring friends back for the upcoming improvements. These are identifiable examples of concern and renewed optimism, not a poll of the entire player base. Some people were looking forward to a clean slate; others feared that a split economy and community would make their established characters feel disposable.[2][3]

What still arrives on December 2?

Jagex says Adventure Guide and the first part of Remastered Journey are planned for December 2, 2026. One helps returning and new players decide what to do; the other reworks the early-game journey. They are improvements to the existing game, rather than rewards reserved for a separate Reignited account.[1]

A 10-day members' access trial, December 2–12, is also planned for new characters and characters without membership since June 2, 2026. Old School RuneScape members' worlds are excluded. Exact start and end times are still to be confirmed, and recently subscribed accounts do not become eligible simply because Reignited was cancelled.[1]

How much of 2027 is secure?

The developer says it is continuing combat and skilling updates, work on long-running storylines, an Agility rework and grandmaster-level quest content. These are stated intentions; players should still check individual announcements for dates and scope changes. The useful distinction is between a cancelled proposal and an active, changeable roadmap.[1]

Bottom line: Reignited's separate doorway is gone, but RuneScape's existing world is still being renovated. The irony is that a plan meant to welcome people back ended by convincing Jagex to keep everyone on the same road. December's real test is whether that road is easier for newcomers to follow.
