Description: A developer reported missing BLE scan results on Android 17 QPR1 build CP3A.260905.009. Check the evidence, established Android scan rules and safe next steps.
As of October 18, 2026, a developer has reported that a Pixel 8 Pro stops receiving Bluetooth Low Energy scan results after the display turns off. Google issue #565066843 is assigned, without an identified fix. Android also has a longstanding rule that pauses unfiltered BLE scans when the screen goes dark.
Device, build and observed behavior
Google lists CP3A.260905.009 as the September Pixel 8 Pro build. The reporter used VespaSnoop, without specifying the app version. Results arrived with the display lit, even on the lock screen, but stopped when it went completely dark. A location-type foreground service was running. This is a specific developer reproduction, not Google's confirmation that all Pixel phones are affected.
Safe checks without erasing data
- Record the build under Settings → About phone → Android version, plus the app version.
- Keep the same BLE accessory nearby and compare screen on/unlocked, lock screen illuminated, and screen fully off. Note when new results arrive.
- Review the app's Nearby devices and Location permissions, granting only what it needs.
- If no important connection will be interrupted, toggle Bluetooth or restart normally, then repeat the same comparison.
- Check the app developer's latest release and report the test conditions.
New regression or established power management?
Android's official BluetoothLeScanner documentation explicitly says scans without a ScanFilter stop on screen-off and resume on screen-on. The public issue does not fully describe the app's filter configuration, so the September update cannot yet be established as the sole cause. Developers should review filtered scans and supported background-scanning patterns. The reporter briefly woke the display as an experiment; repeated wake-ups can drain the battery and are not a recommended consumer fix.
Fix status and data safety
The issue was filed September 23 and passed to Google engineering by September 30. Google's October Pixel update announcement does not identify a fix for #565066843. Resetting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi removes saved pairings and networks; factory reset removes local data. Joining or leaving a beta can also wipe data.
Bottom line
If BLE discovery works only with the display lit, document the build and three screen states, then send the results to the developer. Check the app's scan filters before considering a phone reset.
