Checked October 13, 2026. No story spoilers. Yes, Sombra lost her regular Hack ability when she moved from Damage to Support on October 6. But saying she can no longer hack anything would be wrong. Her EMP ultimate still hacks enemy heroes, and her new Hotfix ability can hack health packs and some enemy deployables.
The crucial difference is what happens to enemy abilities. Old Hack could lock players out of their skills. Sombra's new Cyberspace instead creates an area that damages enemies, heals allies and applies Weaken, reducing enemies' damage and healing output by 50%. They can still use their abilities. Hotfix heals teammates, while stealth and Translocator remain part of her toolkit. She's still disruptive; the disruption just looks different.
That difference is exactly why fans disagree. On October 7, a longtime Sombra player complained about losing quick eliminations and the ability to win familiar duels. On October 10, another Overwatch discussion welcomed a Sombra who finally plays like a real Support. Neither post represents every player, and neither tells us how future balancing will go.
Will Damage Sombra return? Blizzard's October patch gives no return date or promise. For now, the answer isn't “the hacker has vanished.” It's that a once-feared ability lockout has given way to healing and weakening at the right moment. Apparently Sombra's new mission involves saving teammates as well as causing trouble.
