As of October 13, 2026. Spoilers for the new show's premise only, not the manga's ending. The anime unveiled at New York Comic Con is not a new season of Boruto. It is a four-episode crossover, NARUTO x NINKŪ. That also does not mean the Boruto anime was officially cancelled.
The panel was called “NARUTO: What's Next?” Understandably, viewers hoped for a Boruto return date. In an October 10 discussion, fans expressed disappointment that the big reveal concerned Ninkū and wondered if more news might come. Their reaction is real; a cancellation announcement is not.
The new story brings back young Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura as Team 7. Kakashi gives them a mission but cannot join them, so Naruto becomes temporary leader. Their first achievement under his command? Getting lost in another world, where they meet Fūsuke from Ninkū. Getting promoted and immediately misplacing your entire universe is quite a debut.
This wasn't a random crossover. Masashi Kishimoto has described Kōji Kiriyama's Ninkū as a major inspiration for Naruto. Both creators supervise the four-part story. It's a meeting between a popular series and the work that helped inspire it.
At the same event, PROJECT RASENGAN outlined a wider future involving Naruto and Boruto across several media. But the announcement did not provide an air date for a new Boruto anime season. A roadmap is not a TV schedule.
Four crossover episodes are confirmed. The next Boruto anime broadcast remains undated in this announcement, and cancellation was not announced either. Don't confuse those three statements.
