Rain is not merely loud. Every part of him is loud.
Watching the first episode of the fantasy comedy Chi-Fuyo with Nico Nico's scrolling viewer comments adds a whole new punchline. Rain starts flailing, and a reaction along the lines of “Yeah, someone would call the authorities” suddenly feels perfectly fair.
We know he means well. A stranger passing him on the street would not have that luxury.
Good intentions, terrible first impression
Rain is an enhancement mage who gets kicked out of his guild and sets out to start over.[1] His official description paints him as a generous guy who cannot stop behaving strangely, even in serious moments.[2]
That explains a lot. It doesn't make the sight of him charging around, shouting and pulling ridiculous faces any less alarming.
Rain's perspective: “There's a perfectly good reason for this!”
Bystander's perspective: “Why is this man running toward me?”
The comment section promptly supplies the missing common sense.
Somehow, even the audience rooting for him understands the bystander.
Animation makes the absurdity impossible to miss
The manga was already funny, but its jokes can arrive faster than you can process them. In the anime, a pause, a shout or one precisely timed gesture lets a gag land.
P.A.WORKS produces the show, and the official staff list even has a dedicated credit covering gag and supporting-character design.[2] It is hard not to admire the care being poured into this spectacular nonsense.
The better Rain moves, the clearer the evidence that he's a walking public disturbance.
Lily's résumé versus everyone's memory
Lily is not just the person you remember screaming. She's an S-rank adventurer who earned that title younger than anyone before her. A disastrous mission left her unable to swing her sword.[2]
That is serious character history.
Meanwhile, some manga readers' strongest memory of her is one giant “AAAH!”
Résumé: record-breaking elite. Mental soundtrack: screaming.
The official character bio then casually adds that her casual clothes are terrible. Even the biography cannot resist a joke.
Wait, sumika sings the opening?
The opening is “Ember Torch” by sumika, written by Kenta Kataoka for the show.[3]
Beautiful production, committed voice performances, a proper rock-band theme—and the hero is still bouncing around like an emergency waiting to happen.
They upgraded the entire anime and forgot to upgrade Rain's self-control.
A third-party database records 72.6% “very good” responses in the October 10, 2026 Nico Nico Live poll for Episode 1.[4] That's the opinion of those who voted, not of every anime viewer. The wild energy will still be too much for some people.
But with comments on screen, the comedy becomes a two-person act: Rain creates the chaos; the audience provides the public safety announcement.
The show outsourced common sense to the comment section.
