Description: Is The Witch and the Beast season 2 canceled because the manga has been on hiatus? What the March 2026 Japanese broadcast really was, what Kodansha lists, and why the anime's ending keeps viewers waiting.

There is no season 2 announcement or release date in the official anime material checked as of October 27, 2026. The March 2026 broadcast was a rerun of all 12 existing episodes. The manga's long publication gap raises a reasonable question, but it does not by itself decide whether another anime season can be made.

The 2026 broadcast was real—just not new

On February 10, TBS announced that Japanese channel AT-X would air episodes 1–12 together on March 21, with further repeat broadcasts on March 30 and 31. That was a scheduling update for season 1. A new television slot can look like a comeback when an anime has been quiet for two years, but a rerun and a renewal are different things.

The original 12-episode series aired in early 2024. Its odd-couple leads are Guideau, a furious witch-hunter, and Ashaf, a composed man carrying a coffin. Mild episode 12 spoilers follow. The official finale synopsis describes Guideau trying to save Falvell and awakening a hidden form after a kiss. It resolves a dangerous confrontation while leaving the wider search connected to Guideau's curse compellingly open.

What does Kodansha's “Ongoing” label actually tell us?

Kodansha's English catalog lists ten volumes of Kousuke Satake's manga and labels the series “Ongoing.” Volume 10 originally appeared in Japan in August 2022. Reports of a publication hiatus date back to 2023. Crucially, a catalog label is not a calendar promising a fresh chapter every month.

Two questions need separate answers: when the manga will resume, and whether an anime production committee will commission more episodes. Existing volumes could theoretically provide material for another adaptation; that is a possibility, not a production announcement. A long pause in print also does not prove that a television sequel has been canceled.

Why fans keep asking

An October 17, 2026 Reddit discussion about anime stuck at one season explicitly named The Witch and the Beast. In a series-specific thread, a reader who moved from the anime to the manga asked whether the story would return. Those are real examples of uncertainty, not evidence that most viewers have reached the same conclusion.

The narrative reason for that curiosity is unusually strong. Ashaf's calm explanations and Guideau's impatience make the case-of-the-week adventures fun, yet every clue about the coffin and the curse points to a larger mystery. The finale lets viewers glimpse an answer, then leaves the journey intact. It is easy to mistake that dramatic unfinished feeling for proof of an unfinished production deal; the two are unrelated.

Bottom line: Japan's 2026 airing was a rerun. A second season remains an open possibility, with no confirmed production date in the sources reviewed. Watch for separate announcements from the anime team and the manga publisher. The coffin opens more readily than the sequel calendar.
