Possibly, but it would need to earn its premise. In the 1980s, a computer capable of transforming a singer's appearance looks like science fiction. That is an interpretation of the concept, not a leaked plot.
A period version has its own advantage: outrageous stage costumes, music rooted in its decade, and futuristic Synergy technology can coexist without explanation. A July 31 fan post specifically worried about repeating the disappointment that the writer associated with the 2015 live-action film.[3] That memory explains the caution; it does not predict the quality of the new series.
What will settle the question?
Watch for a studio synopsis, production images and music announcements. Those will tell us far more about the show's direction than the word “reboot.” Development news alone does not guarantee a completed series.
