Description: The manga is complete, and Studio Orange finished work on the BEASTARS finale. Does that mean Phos is returning? Here's what the announcements and actual fans say.

Answer: As of October 19, 2026, the official sources reviewed here contain no confirmation that Land of the Lustrous Season 2 has been commissioned. Netflix announced Orange's BEASTARS finale for March 2026. Completing one show does not automatically authorize another.

Why this particular anime is missed

Haruko Ichikawa's manga follows gemstone beings in a distant future. Fragile Phosphophyllite wants to fight invaders from the Moon but is instead assigned to compile a natural history. Phos's search for a purpose gradually becomes a story about identity, relationships and change.

The 2017 anime made the gems' translucent bodies and striking movement part of its storytelling. Fans want more than the next plot points: they want to see how that visual language handles Phos's later transformations. Publisher Kodansha announced the thirteenth and final manga volume for November 21, 2024. The original story now has an ending.

Does BEASTARS finishing free up Orange?

On December 21, 2025, Netflix said BEASTARS Final Season Part 2, produced by Orange, would arrive in March 2026. Because Orange also animated Land of the Lustrous, fans naturally connect the two projects.

But studio availability is only one consideration. Rights holders, investors and production partners must approve a new season. Netflix's announcement does not identify a new Land of the Lustrous contract, team or release date. A possible opening in a schedule is not a renewal announcement.

What fans actually worry about

In a March 12, 2026 community discussion, viewers pleaded for Season 2 and joked about waiting another ten thousand years. Others cited anime that returned after long gaps. Those are genuine fan reactions, not inside knowledge of a production decision.

The joke works because time transforms the characters in Land of the Lustrous itself. The anime stands still while its audience keeps growing older.

What would count as confirmation?

Look for an explicit Season 2 announcement from the rights holders or official project channels, ideally naming production partners or a release plan.

Bottom line: The complete manga offers a path forward. The missing piece is a decision to animate it. Ten thousand years suits the fiction; viewers would settle for one clear official sentence.
