Description: HeyGen Free may allow one to three videos depending on region, while free API credits ended in February 2026. Compare Web, API, paid credits, resets and legacy accounts.
Short answer: You can still try HeyGen videos on its Free web plan. The pricing page advertises three videos per month, but the current help center says one to three depending on region. Free API credits stopped in February 2026. A free web video allowance is not an API wallet.[1][2]
The two different meanings of free
HeyGen's browser-based video maker uses a video quota on Free; its developer API is billed separately. Even an account on Free can purchase pay-as-you-go API credits. Credits included with Creator, Pro or Business cannot fund API requests.[1][2][3]
| Access | Included allowance | Renewal or extra usage |
|---|---|---|
| Web Free | 1–3 videos by region, up to 1 minute each | Monthly; exact reset hour not specified |
| Creator, new plan | 600 credits/month, from US$29/month | Monthly; upgrade rather than buy a one-off pack |
| Pro, new plan | 1,000–100,000 credits/month, from US$49/month | Monthly; select a higher tier |
| Business, new plan | 1,500 credits/month, from US$149/month | Monthly; extra 100 credits cost US$5 |
| Developer API | No recurring free credits since February 2026 | Separate pay-as-you-go purchase; 12-month expiry |
Prices are standard USD figures; taxes, account age and region can affect what appears at checkout.[1][2][3]
Why does the pricing page say three?
The localized pricing pages show three free videos per month. The current support article qualifies this as one to three based on region. Treat three as the advertised figure, not a guarantee for every account. HeyGen does not publish a definitive country-by-country mapping or exact monthly reset hour in these sources. Your signed-in allowance is the practical check.[1][4][6]
The help center separately mentions three Video Agent videos per month. Do not simply add those to the general free-video quota without checking how your account counts them.[1]
What about existing unlimited plans?
Older Unlimited subscriptions stopped being sold to new buyers after May 15, 2026. Existing subscribers can keep them while the subscription remains active and in good standing. Cancelling or switching to the new credit-based plan is one-way. Legacy API Pro and Scale plans have separate grandfathering rules. Legacy API credits expire after 30 days; purchased pay-as-you-go API credits after 12 months.[2][7]
For new paid web plans, monthly subscribers can carry unused credits into one further billing cycle; annual subscribers accumulate monthly allocations until their annual renewal. Downgrading to Free ends that carryover. These are web-plan rules, not API-credit rules.[1][3]
Bottom line
For a quick avatar video, check your Free dashboard and one-minute limit. For automation, budget for API credits separately. If you have an old unlimited subscription, compare the loss of grandfathered benefits before switching. Same brand, different meters.
Sources checked: October 18, 2026. API help explicitly says last updated September 16, 2026; the newer plan help displays a relative update label, not an exact effective date.
