Description: Four years after the original Genshin Impact anime announcement, fans still want a premiere date. Here's what HoYoverse and ufotable said in 2026, and why a future-project listing is not a release schedule.
The Genshin Impact anime project is still alive. A developer representative said in January 2026 that work was progressing steadily, and ufotable included the title in its February 21 future-project showcase. As of October 22, 2026, the cited official material provides no confirmed premiere date or streaming platform.
What was announced back in 2022?
On September 16, 2022, HoYoverse unveiled a long-term collaboration with Japanese animation studio ufotable. Its concept trailer offered landscapes of Teyvat and glimpses of the Traveler twins, Aether and Lumine, alongside Paimon. The key phrase was “long-term project.” A concept trailer establishes an artistic ambition; it does not mean episode one is ready or that a broadcast window has been booked.
Genshin's story also poses an unusual adaptation problem. Players choose one of the twins and explore nations at their own pace while searching for the missing sibling. An anime must turn that flexible journey into a sequence of scenes with a fixed viewpoint. That's an artistic challenge, not evidence of a particular production delay.
What changed in 2026?
At Genshin FES 2026 in January, a representative of the developer described work on the animation project as steady. Then ufotable's February 21 promotional reel placed Genshin among its “Future Projects.” That is meaningful reassurance: the studio was publicly keeping the collaboration on its slate.
It is not a countdown. The reel also mentioned other titles, including Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle II. Fans can reasonably wonder about competing workloads, but the footage does not reveal staffing, production percentages or a rule that one franchise must finish before another can advance.
Why are players still anxious?
A February 21 Reddit discussion celebrated the appearance while debating whether 2027 was plausible or wildly optimistic. Another discussion on February 16 asked what the studio had actually been making during the long silence. These are identifiable fan reactions, not a poll of the entire community.
The question has evolved from “Did they abandon it?” to “When will we finally see a finished episode?” Four years is long enough for players to finish whole regions of Teyvat while waiting for a single firm date.
What should fans watch for next?
Look for a dedicated trailer, an announced format, named production staff and an official premiere window. Aether and Lumine appearing in a concept shot does not settle which twin will lead the narrative. Likewise, short animated cutscenes released for the game should not be mistaken for episodes of the ufotable collaboration.
Bottom line
The most useful update is that the creators publicly reaffirmed the project in 2026. The release year remains an open question; 2027 and later dates discussed by fans are guesses. The truly revealing announcement will be the one that shows how this player-shaped adventure becomes a story with its own voice. Teyvat has plenty of waypoints. The anime still needs its first departure time.
