Rocket Racing closed on October 1, 2026. Here is what Epic says survives—and why keeping a car is not quite the same as keeping its racetrack.
Your customized cars are still in Fortnite. Epic Games explicitly says the Vehicle Locker is unaffected by Rocket Racing's October 1 shutdown. The cars you customized remain available to use in Fortnite.
That settles the inventory question. It doesn't settle what longtime racers actually miss: the place where they drove those cars.
In its September 17 update, Epic confirmed that Rocket Racing itself and islands built with its special templates would disappear on October 1. Those creator-made tracks were unpublished and are no longer playable in that form. Some racing-building tools—including track splines and boost pads—were moved into regular Fortnite island creation, so creators can build new racing experiences. That's a new starting line, not a restoration of every old course.
The distinction matters in the fan discussion. In a September 17 Reddit thread, one player said Rocket Racing kept them in Fortnite when Battle Royale wasn't their thing. Another questioned the appeal of buying car cosmetics once the dedicated racing mode was gone. They weren't asking only whether an item icon would vanish. They were asking what that purchase means when the activity they enjoyed has ended.
So there are two answers: the cars stay; the original Rocket Racing experience has ended. The interesting next chapter is whether player-made racing islands become a satisfying place to drive them. A garage full of cars is reassuring, but fans still want somewhere worth taking them.
