Description: The creators discussed six episodes, down from eight. Can Mizu's London journey and the stories unfolding in Edo fit without losing their emotional weight?
Six episodes were the plan described by the creators, not proof that the season will be rushed. Netflix's October 14, 2026 update puts Season 2 in January 2027 and says Mizu's journey will conclude in 2028.
Why the shorter run worries viewers
Season 1 had eight episodes. In a 2024 interview, the creative team discussed six installments of approximately 45 minutes for Season 2. A December 2024 Reddit discussion raised a specific concern: how can Mizu's revenge abroad share the available time with Akemi's political ambitions and the changing paths of Taigen and Ringo? Some viewers compared their fears with the pacing they disliked in another animated series. Those are individual reactions, not evidence that this production is in trouble.
London is not the entire story
Netflix's official synopsis places Mizu in London, facing new allies, familiar enemies and her own demons. Meanwhile, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, while Ringo looks for a new purpose. Both settings are part of the confirmed story.
Season 1 was memorable for more than sword fights. Akemi's choices and Ringo's loyalty made the action matter. A shorter season can still work if decisions have time to carry consequences. Rapid jumps between the two locations could, however, make those changes feel unearned. That is the real pacing question.
Does Season 3 ease the pressure?
Netflix has announced a conclusion in 2028, so Season 2 need not settle every conflict. The October update does not specify a final episode count or reveal each character's fate.
The test is not how many fights fit into six episodes, but whether the people behind them get room to change. A sword can move in a second. A convincing character decision usually needs longer. We will find out in January 2027.
