Description: Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement missed its 2026 target. Here's what IGA confirmed, what September's trailer reveals, and what fans are still waiting to learn.
The game is still being developed for a 2027 release, as of October 20, 2026. Producer Koji Igarashi announced the move on August 26, and the official site followed up with a Tokyo Game Show trailer on September 17. There is no announced month or day yet, but the project has shown tangible activity since the delay.[1][2]
Why are players wary of another missed window?
The original target was 2026. Before the official announcement, players were already discussing the lack of updates and the possibility of a slip. In the August 26 discussion on r/Bloodstained, some remembered the multiple delays of Ritual of the Night. Others preferred a later, more polished release over a rushed one. Those comments show real and differing reactions, not a representative poll of the whole fanbase.[3]
An August promise, followed by September footage
IGA described development as being in its final stages when the team announced the 2027 window. The accompanying official post showed fresh screenshots and promised more material during the wait.[1][4]
On September 17, that promise gained substance. The new trailer highlighted the series' largest map, a day-and-night cycle that changes the world, the Epiphany Combat System for learning attacks, and ways to customize the heroes through equipment, crafting and cooking.[2] A trailer establishes what the studio is showing and aiming for; it does not independently prove the finished game's performance or lock down a release date.
What kind of Bloodstained are we waiting for?
This is a prequel set in a gothic version of sixteenth-century England, with Leo and Alex opposing the demon lord Elias. The two leads are central to the premise. How their different capabilities work during exploration, and how the day-night system changes routes or encounters, will matter more than a montage of striking environments.[2][4]
PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series platforms are announced. A specific date, region-by-region timing and any additional platforms remain matters for future official announcements.[4] Wishlist pages and promotional trailers are useful places to watch; neither is a substitute for a dated launch announcement.
The practical answer
The strongest evidence against fears that the project has simply vanished is the sequence: an explicit development update in August, then new footage in September. The next meaningful milestones are a firm date and extended gameplay demonstrating the two-character design. For now, the hardest boss may be the giant, unhelpfully broad health bar labelled “2027.”
