Description: Why is a human-sized Bertholdt so dangerous? Explore the Colossal Titan's transformation blast, Armin's attack at Liberio, the price of its superheated steam, and how the Wall Titans differ.

Full-series spoilers for Attack on Titan.

A sixty-meter giant kicking down a gate is horrifying enough. But the Colossal Titan's cruelest feature is not its height. The massive explosion can happen during transformation, while its owner was human just a moment earlier.

Imagine expecting a close-range fight and realizing your opponent is the delivery system for the blast.

1. The weapon walks into enemy territory by itself

A soldier approaches a human enemy with ODM gear. There is no enormous nape to aim for. If that enemy carries the Colossal Titan, transforming can turn the surrounding area into a disaster.

This is a tactical hypothetical based on demonstrated abilities, not a claim that the story features that exact duel. The implication is disturbing enough: you don't need to smuggle a giant weapon behind enemy lines. Its bearer can simply walk there.

Bertholdt spent years with the 104th Training Corps, wearing the same uniform and talking to the people around him. The catastrophic weapon had a classmate's face. Fantastic camouflage, dreadful surprise.

2. Shiganshina and Liberio show the scale

Bertholdt's transformation at Shiganshina produces a devastating blast. His earlier appearance at Trost causes much less destruction, indicating that the effect of transforming can vary.

After inheriting the power, Armin transforms near the harbor during the raid on Liberio. Ships and harbor facilities are devastated. The especially outrageous detail is that after the explosion, the enormous Titan is still standing there.

An ordinary bomb detonates and is spent. This one detonates and leaves a gigantic opponent on the battlefield. The boss fight effectively begins with phase two.

3. Survive the blast, then face the steam

Even if soldiers reach the Titan, its extremely hot steam makes approaching the nape dangerous. For fighters using ODM gear, the route to the weak point becomes a hazard itself.

However, producing that steam consumes the Titan's own muscle. At Shiganshina, Armin takes advantage of this drawback to hold Bertholdt's attention and give Eren an opening. The immense body is also relatively slow.

The transformation explosion and the steam emitted afterward are distinct. The Colossal Titan cannot simply reproduce its full transformation blast with every punch while already transformed.

4. Can every Wall Titan in the Rumbling explode?

The Wall Titans look similar, radiate tremendous heat, and march in overwhelming numbers. Their footsteps and sheer mass make the Rumbling a catastrophic threat.

There is an important limit to the comparison: the story shows the Colossal Titan, one of the Nine Titans, producing spectacular explosions during its inheritors' transformations. It does not establish that every Wall Titan can trigger the same blast at will. The Rumbling works through the Founder's control, immense numbers, heat, and crushing mass.

One nightmare hides inside a person. The other fills the horizon. Similar bodies, completely different ways to terrorize an enemy.

5. The most dangerous form might be human

A sixty-meter monster is hard to miss. A quiet trainee standing beside you is not.

The terrifying advantage of Bertholdt's power is how close its bearer can get before the giant threat suddenly appears.

How do you infiltrate a giant weapon into enemy ranks? Apparently, you enroll it in the same training class. The bomb even gets a uniform.
