Description: Microsoft fixed mouse-input stutter in some games on October 13, 2026. Check the correct KB for Windows 11 24H2–26H2 and 26H1, then distinguish input hitches from FPS drops.
If the camera jerks only when you move your mouse in a game, check the October Windows update first. Microsoft explicitly lists a mouse-input stutter fix in KB5127648. Windows 11 26H1 receives KB5127646 instead.[1][2]
Check the Windows version
Press Win + R, enter winver, and open Settings → Windows Update → Update history. October 2026 is the last monthly update for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro; plan to upgrade to a supported release for ongoing security patches.[1]
| Windows 11 version | Fix | Build after update |
|---|---|---|
| 24H2 | KB5127648 | 26100.9711 |
| 25H2 | KB5127648 | 26200.9711 |
| 26H2 | KB5127648 | 26300.9711 |
| 26H1 | KB5127646 | 28000.3231 |
Four safe diagnostic checks
- Test the same game scene: does the camera hitch only while moving the mouse, or does the entire game freeze even without input?
- If a controller is supported, compare camera movement in the same scene. A difference is a clue, not proof.
- Watch the in-game FPS counter and note whether FPS falls exactly when the view jumps. Record the game version and installed KB.
- If the desktop pointer also skips, check batteries, wireless receiver placement, USB hubs and interference.
A September 12 Windows 11 25H2 user report described steady 60 FPS but stuttering mouse-driven camera movement; a controller did not reproduce it. The poster named the Unity games SULFUR and Gunner, HEAT, PC!. This is an individual report, not confirmation that Microsoft tested or fixed those titles.[4]
Apply the fix without losing data
Save work, install the matching cumulative update through Windows Update, and restart normally if prompted.[3] If the issue remains, test game input options, mouse polling rate, wireless connection and official drivers one at a time. Polling-rate changes are diagnostic, not a Microsoft-confirmed root cause. The release notes do not list all affected games, mouse models, underlying code or prevalence.[1][2]
Avoid starting with registry edits, security-update removal, forced driver deletion or a Windows reset. Those actions can affect security, apps, settings and files. Follow IT policy on managed PCs.
Bottom line
Check KB5127648 or KB5127646 for 26H1 before replacing the mouse. If stutter persists, distinguish input hitches from frame-rate drops.
