Description: The origin of the deadpan character surrounded by miniature dancers, Kikuo’s song with Hatsune Miku, and the 2026 fan animation trend.

One character stares straight ahead while tiny figures dance in a circle around their head. That is the “Twins at the Carousel” animation meme. The person in the middle looks ready to go home; their miniature entourage is running an amusement park.

The song came years before the trend

The music is “Twins at the Carousel,” also titled “ふたつの木馬,” released by Kikuo featuring Hatsune Miku on March 23, 2023. Know Your Meme traces the video format to a June 10, 2026 TikTok post by mushuuno. It showed Clark from the film Backrooms standing still while tiny pirate versions of Clark danced around his head. A horror-movie character had somehow acquired a personal carousel.

Why did other fandoms adopt it?

Keep a motionless central character, add orbiting mini-characters, and time them to the music: that is enough to remake the format with another cast. Versions tied to a Minecraft-related story appeared June 17, Limbus Company fans participated by June 27, and a June 30 version featured Mark Grayson and Atom Eve from Invincible. A reusable template was also shared June 27.

As of July 1, 2026, Know Your Meme recorded about 48,100 TikTok videos using the associated sound. That is a historical sound-use figure, not today’s worldwide popularity.

What does it mean?

The format can suggest an overactive inner world behind a blank face, or affection for the characters circling nearby. The particular cast changes the feeling. “Twins” belongs to the song title; the dancers do not have to number exactly two. The central character has not taken a step. The tiny parade has already completed a lap.
