I Barely Know Tokai On Air, Yet I Visited Okazaki Castle Twice and Their Official Shop Four Times

1. Almost zero fandom, two castle visits in one month

I barely know Tokai On Air. Yet after spending time with two different acquaintances who like the group, I somehow visited Okazaki Castle twice in a month. The official shop inside Okazaki Castle Park was already visit No. 4. My fieldwork is moving much faster than my watch history.

The activity log is absurd: Tokai On Air watch time: almost zero / Okazaki Castle: twice this month / official shop: four visits. This is less “fan pilgrimage” and more “ordinary person gradually absorbed by Okazaki.”

There is a reason this can happen. Tokai On Air is a six-member creator group based in Okazaki and has served as Okazaki Tourism Ambassadors since 2016.[1] In 2026, seven new “Tokai On Air Manhole: Okazaki Edition” covers were installed around the city, while a limited-time official store opened inside Okazaki Castle Park.[2][3] Even if you do not seek the content, the city keeps putting it in your path.

2. The river looks like matcha, and miso makes the brain invent terrible collaborations

Near Okazaki Castle, the water looked so intensely green that it resembled a giant pool of matcha. There is not enough evidence to declare algae the cause, so this is purely a visual joke. But after walking through the home of Hatcho miso, the brain starts converting everything into food.

That is how the completely fictional idea “Miso × Chiikawa: Miso-Pickled Chiikawa” appears. It is not a real product or official collaboration. It begins as a cute crossover and ends, linguistically, as preserved food.

History, miso, YouTubers, manholes, and a matcha-looking river all fit into one Okazaki walk. At some point, categorizing the trip becomes harder than accepting the chaos.

3. What looks like a park clock is actually a six-meter automated Ieyasu Noh machine

Okazaki Castle Park’s karakuri clock is about six meters tall according to the tourism association. At every hour and half-hour, a figure of Tokugawa Ieyasu appears and performs Noh.[4] Seiko Time Creation says the installation dates to 1990, measures about 5.5 meters high by three meters wide, and even includes a mechanism that puts a Noh mask on Ieyasu in an instant.[5]

Calling it a “clock” almost undersells it. It is basically a six-meter automated Noh machine dedicated to Ieyasu.

I also heard a local claim that it cost ¥200 million, but I could not verify that figure in the official tourism material or the manufacturer’s project information checked for this article. So the price remains unverified. The verified size and mechanism are already strange enough.

4. Fourth visit to the official shop, yet the yellow mascot came first

The 2026 “TOKAI ONAIR OFFICIAL STORE Okazaki Castle Park” runs from July 10 through November 30 inside the Okazakiya souvenir shop.[3]

Despite visiting four times, the thing I learned before most of the six members was “ピースの二乗のあいつ,” roughly “the guy who is peace squared.” That really is the official name.[2][3] I mentally called it something like “Peace-kun,” only to discover the real name is more mathematical.

Because the mascot permanently beams while throwing a V-sign, the juvenile impulse is to imagine replacing it with a different one-finger gesture. This is a joke, not a proposal to alter merchandise or public property. Peace squared becomes public-order squared, but only in my head.

5. Same ¥990 price, yet the shelf turns into a live bar chart

At the Okazaki Edition manhole-strap display, every version was ¥990 during the visit. Several hooks carried SOLD OUT labels while other versions still had visible stock. At that moment, the Ryo and Yumemaru versions appeared to have comparatively more stock remaining.

Because the price is constant, the shelf briefly looks like a real-time bar chart of favorite-member demand. But “therefore they are less popular” would be a bad inference. Without initial quantities, restock times, purchase limits, or visitor mix, the only thing visible is a momentary inventory difference.

The official store itself says quantities are limited and that stockouts and restocks are announced on its official X account.[3] The shelf is funny. The shelf is not an opinion poll.

6. Forty-seven prefectures, and only Aomori was missing

Then came the “Peace Squared” prefectural rubber keychains. During the visit, Aomori alone was sold out.

A person who barely knows Tokai On Air has now stopped reacting to members and started reacting to SKU anomalies. Forty-seven prefectures are lined up, and Aomori alone is the hole.

The official 2026 product announcement lists the prefectural keychains and generally limits purchases to three per design per person.[3] A searchable archive of the official X account also shows an August 26 notice that all East Japan designs were scheduled to be restocked at 9:30 on August 30.[6]

7. “Aomori is uniquely popular” is only one possible story

There is no official explanation for why Aomori alone was sold out at that moment.

More importantly, another official X stockout notice from a different time listed Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, Niigata, Ishikawa, Nagano, Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, and Mie simultaneously.[7] In other words, Aomori is not the only prefecture that has ever disappeared from the shelf.

A normal inventory cycle is enough to explain the snapshot: group restock → different sell-through speeds by prefecture → partial restocks → Aomori happens to hit zero at one moment. Initial stock and prefecture-by-prefecture sales are not public, so one shelf snapshot cannot establish nationwide popularity.

“Only Aomori was SOLD OUT” is the fun fact. The reason remains open.

8. This has stopped being a pilgrimage and become a store audit

The normal fan sequence might be watch videos → pick a favorite member → visit Okazaki → buy merchandise.

Mine went backward: visit Okazaki → visit the castle → visit it again → enter the official shop four times → learn the yellow mascot first → compare member stock → investigate the missing Aomori SKU.

That is no longer a pilgrimage. It is retail auditing. If the next visit begins with “Yumemaru stock looks lower today,” the transformation into inventory staff is complete.

9. Conclusion: I do not know the favorites, but I can read the shelf

Okazaki’s Tokai On Air collaboration is embedded in manholes, the castle-park shop, and ordinary tourist routes.[2][3] That means “I barely know Tokai On Air” is still a valid starting point. You can learn the place, then the mascot, then the shelf, while barely increasing your watch time.

The videos are not becoming more familiar, but Okazaki is becoming higher-resolution. This may be less fandom than on-site municipal training.

When the thing I check next is not a new video but “Did Aomori get restocked?”, it is probably already too late.
