The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has not been delisted from Steam as of October 14, 2026. Its store page still offers the game for sale. The uncomfortable part is what happens after updates end: buying the game, finding a match, and keeping it playable are three different questions.
Gun Interactive's multiplayer horror game puts the Slaughter family against people trying to escape. A horror game can survive a final content update. Its players are more worried about the day the lobby itself might vanish.
What the publisher actually promised
On May 13, 2025, Gun announced that the upcoming May patch would mark the end of new downloadable content, balance changes, and bug fixes. In that same announcement, it explicitly said the game would remain playable and would not be removed from storefronts. The Steam product page was still live, with a purchase option, when checked on October 14, 2026.
That does not amount to a lifetime guarantee. A comment in an October 2, 2026 Reddit thread about possible future delistings wondered whether this game, alongside another licensed horror title, might leave stores in the coming years. It was one person's speculation—not a leak, an announced deadline, or evidence of a mass exodus.
Didn't the game plan to switch away from dedicated servers?
Yes, and this is the twist worth checking. The team originally described a peer-to-peer system, in which one player would host a match rather than relying on the same dedicated-server arrangement. But an update to its September 3, 2025 explanation said the switch would not go ahead because it could harm stability and performance. Gun said the game would stay on its May 22, 2025 build for the time being.
So the cancelled networking change was not an announcement that matches were being shut down. Nor did it establish how long the existing service would last. Both are more specific questions than the vague claim that a 'dead game' is about to disappear.
The useful checklist is simple: the shop is open today; long-term matchmaking has no deadline in the sources checked; future news belongs on Gun's Community Hub and the official store listing. Before treating a frightening prediction as a release calendar, check which of those three claims it actually supports.
