“State-Mandated Girlfriend” imagines a government assigning girlfriends to men who cannot find partners. A Wojak drawing revived the idea in September 2026. The joke treats romance like a public benefit; the controversy is that the woman in the picture has no say. This was not a real policy announcement.

What happened in September?

Know Your Meme documents a notable Wojak post on September 9 and a repost on X on September 10. The latter reportedly gained more than 20,000 likes in five days. Some viewers found the bureaucratic fantasy funny. Others objected to a woman being depicted as someone else's entitlement.

Where did the phrase come from?

The expression predates the image. Know Your Meme records a December 9, 2016 use of the term. In 2021, researcher Clare Binning examined the concept in a presentation about incel communities, entitlement and consent. September 2026 brought a new illustration to an old argument.

Satire or a serious demand?

That depends on the poster. Some ridicule the fantasy, while others appear to endorse it. One parody replaces the allocated girlfriend with a state-provided healthcare program, changing the target of the joke. Read the caption before deciding what a repost means.

A government office can assign a case number. Mutual attraction still requires two willing people.
