Description: Reddit is retiring RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. Here's what happens to subreddit subscriptions, why readers are concerned, and which alternatives Reddit actually supports.

Short answer: Your existing Reddit RSS subscriptions are expected to stop delivering new posts after November 13, 2026. Reddit recommends migration tools for moderators, but explicitly offers no RSS replacement for following communities you do not moderate.[1]

Your subreddit is staying; your feed is changing

An RSS reader gathers updates from many websites into one inbox. For people following several subreddits alongside blogs and news, that is much more than a shortcut to a website. Reddit's announcement concerns the RSS delivery method, not the existence of the subreddits or their old posts. Opening a community in Reddit's app or browser remains a different experience from receiving its posts automatically in an independent reader.

Reddit says RSS has become a route for mass scraping and automated abuse. It is also moving third-party apps and bots away from its public data API. Those changes follow a separate schedule: new public API applications close October 31, 2026; access for unregistered or unresponsive developers begins winding down January 12, 2027; remaining public access ends by March 2027.[2] Don't confuse that timeline with the earlier RSS cutoff.

The worry is visible in the replies

On Reddit's own announcement, one reader describes scanning industry-related subreddits through RSS at work. Another says a Chrome RSS extension currently alerts them to every new post and wonders what desktop workflow will replace it. A moderator asks what happens to teams that do not use Discord.[1] These are identifiable concerns in a public discussion, not evidence that every Reddit user feels the same way.

The overlooked loss is the quiet, unified inbox. A reader who once checked dozens of sources in one place may now have to visit multiple feeds, adjust notifications, or accept a different way of discovering posts.

What to do before the cutoff

If you moderate a community, review Reddit's migration guide and its suggested Developer Platform app, Discord Relay. It may cover particular moderation alerts, but Discord notifications are not a general-purpose RSS replacement.[1]

If you simply follow communities, save your subreddit list and set up a practical route through Reddit's website or official app. When considering third-party alternatives, check whether they are authorized, how quickly they update, whether they require credentials, and whether their operator can sustain the service. A workaround that depends on unrestricted automated collection is especially fragile given the announced changes.

The takeaway

The communities are not closing on November 13. What is closing is a convenient, independent delivery channel. If your reader goes quiet after the deadline, check the subreddit before assuming its members have stopped posting. The best time to rebuild your reading routine is while the old one still works.
