0. Five-second answer

The first assumption to throw away is “Dragon Monarch = fixed power level.”

It does not work that way.

Ultimatia bends time. Gilzea is framed as a nightmare benchmark for Kamui. Crimson is a former Monarch whose present-day threat comes as much from magic, traps and planning as from direct combat. Kamui is not a Monarch at all, yet his combat ability crashes straight into that level.

Our provisional tiers:

Tier Character Short version
EX / unrankable Dragon God Highest dragon-side authority, but too little direct combat data
SSS Gilzea Kamui once lost to Gilzea; one of the clearest “wall” characters
SSS Thunder God Kamui Extreme speed and firepower; fights Ragna on equal terms
SSS Peak Ragna in the Kamui fight Limit-break output, including Silver Comet support
SSS–SS provisional Machine Dragon Gresnowak Vol. 14 officially bills it as the “strongest dragon” and a weapon exceeding Ragna
SS Future Ragna The completed reference point behind Ragna’s “strongest power”
SS? Prime Crimson Former Winged Monarch, but prime direct-combat data are sparse
S+ Normal Kamui Officially among the strongest superior dragons despite being rank two
S+? Roaring Monarch Bagram Central Monarch of the current manga war; placement remains provisional
S Ultimatia Lower raw brawling value, absurd danger once time magic is counted
A–S tactical Present Crimson Wins through magic, traps, information and schemes rather than a DPS check

Comments section:

“If they’re all Monarchs, shouldn’t they all be SSS?”
“A job title is not a combat stat.”
“Ultimatia brought a pause button to a fistfight.”

1. How the ranking works

This is not a raw-strength list. It weighs:

  1. Wins, losses and explicit equal fights.
  2. Official descriptions such as “strongest,” “overwhelming,” or “among the strongest.”
  3. Abilities that can bypass raw stats: time control, speed, silver aura, survival tools.
  4. Peak burst output versus repeatable, stable performance.

Ragna Crimson is a matchup-heavy series. A clean A > B > C chain breaks fast.

2. EX: Dragon God means “not measurable,” not “confirmed #1 fighter”

The Dragon God stands above the Dragon Monarch system as its divine authority. Ultimatia is officially described as carrying out the will of the “God.”

That still does not give us enough direct evidence to say the Dragon God wins every head-to-head fight.

So EX means: wrong measuring scale.

“It’s a god, so #1.”
“Show combat footage.”
“It’s a god.”
“Evidence still pending.”

3. SSS: Gilzea, Thunder God Kamui and peak Ragna

Gilzea

The official episode 23 synopsis says that while Kamui is fighting an opponent on equal terms, he remembers Gilzea, the Slaughter Dragon who defeated him in the past.

That is one of the strongest comparison cues in the series.

Gilzea’s power description is basically trauma-based advertising.

We still avoid saying “Gilzea definitely beats the later Thunder God Kamui,” because the timeline and transformations matter. SSS is a band, not a strict internal order.

Thunder God Kamui

Even normal Kamui is officially “among the strongest” superior dragons. His Thunder God state raises him into the series’ extreme-speed, extreme-output bracket and leads to the final all-in clash with Ragna.

The funny part: he is second seat, not the Monarch.

The organizational chart has already failed.

Peak Ragna in the Kamui fight

The official finale summary frames Ragna and Kamui as throwing everything they have into the clash.

This is burst-Ragna, not casual Ragna.

Think of Future Ragna as the polished production build and Kamui-fight Ragna as the build running at unsafe clock speed because the server is on fire.

4. SS: Future Ragna is the completed benchmark, not automatically the highest Ragna number

Official material says present Ragna received the “strongest power” from his future self, and later episodes say he draws out even more of that future power.

Future Ragna is therefore the reference architecture behind the current Ragna build.

But “reference architecture” does not mean every single burst feat must be higher.

Future Ragna’s edge is completion: experience, consistency, skill, and the ability to keep fighting in terrible conditions. Present Ragna can temporarily combine inherited power, equipment and extreme circumstances into frightening peaks.

So:

Overall completion and reliability: Future Ragna advantage. Momentary maximum output: Kamui-fight Ragna can enter the same band or exceed it.

5. Crimson must be split into prime Crimson and present Crimson

Square Enix officially describes Crimson as the Winged Dragon Monarch who rebelled and tried to kill the Dragon God.

That gives prime Crimson Monarch-level credentials.

Present Crimson is harder to place on a standard fighting chart. The official character profile emphasizes magic and schemes.

Crimson’s real talent is showing you a stat screen, closing it, and then revealing that the arena, exit, timer and referee were all trapped two hours ago.

Prime Crimson gets a provisional SS?. Present Crimson gets a tactical A–S band.

That does not mean “weak.”

It means Crimson is the person who hears “1v1, no prep” and replies, “Why would I agree to your rules?”

6. Ultimatia is S-tier without being low-danger

Ultimatia is the first seat and Winged Monarch, with time manipulation.

The official episode 19 summary explicitly says Crimson sees no winning path for then-current Ragna against the combination of Kamui’s power and Ultimatia’s time magic.

So do not read “S instead of SSS” as “easy opponent.”

Raw melee can favor Kamui. Time control can rewrite the conditions under which melee matters.

Kamui: “I’m faster.”
Ragna: “I cut faster.”
Ultimatia: “Time stops.”
Referee: “That is not the same sport.”

7. “Dragon Monarch” is a role, not a tier label

This is the key to the whole power system.

Monarch status does not produce identical combat profiles.

Ultimatia is ability-centric. Crimson is strategy-centric. Gilzea is presented as a direct-combat monster. Kamui is not a Monarch yet fights in the Monarch-level neighborhood.

The best shorthand is:

Being a Monarch guarantees monster status. It does not define the ceiling.

8. Current manga additions: Gresnowak and Bagram

By October 2026 the manga has moved far beyond the Winged Bloodline arc.

Square Enix’s official volume 14 page introduces Machine Dragon Gresnowak as a full-body weapon, the “strongest dragon,” and a threat that surpasses Ragna. That is too important to omit, so it enters the provisional SSS–SS band.

But the exact comparison depends on which Ragna we mean. “Surpasses Ragna in this arc” is not automatically identical to “surpasses the Kamui-fight burst peak.”

Volume 17 centers the final offensive around Roaring Monarch Bagram and the Roaring Bloodline. The series is still running in the October 2026 issue, so current-arc placements remain deliberately provisional.

A ranking article that refuses to lock a rank?

Yes. The alternative is publishing a fossil one chapter early.

9. Common matchups

Future Ragna vs Ultimatia: Future Ragna has a realistic winning route, but time magic makes this more than a damage test.

Future Ragna vs normal Kamui: lean Future Ragna, not a free win.

Future Ragna vs Thunder God Kamui: same broad tier; reliability versus explosive speed and output.

Future Ragna vs Gilzea: insufficient evidence for “Future Ragna definitely wins.” Gilzea stays a top-wall character.

Present Crimson vs Gilzea: if you demand a clean fistfight, Crimson loses the spreadsheet. If prep, traps and strategy are allowed, Crimson sets the spreadsheet on fire.

10. Final verdict: rank win conditions, not titles

The cleanest summary:

Unrankable: Dragon God
Top combat band: Gilzea, Thunder God Kamui, Kamui-fight peak Ragna Current manga super-top: Gresnowak, provisional Completed dragon slayer: Future Ragna Monarch-class anomalies: prime Crimson, normal Kamui, Bagram provisional Ability king who can upset higher tiers: Ultimatia Strategist who hates tier lists: present Crimson

Can Future Ragna fight Dragon Monarchs?

Yes. He is clearly not in a category where facing a Monarch is inherently hopeless.

But “can fight Monarchs” is not the same as “automatically beats every Monarch.”

In Ragna Crimson, power is closer to:

output × technique × special abilities × matchup × preparation × willingness to break yourself

That is why tier lists are fun here—and why Crimson would immediately cheat on yours.
