Description: Pokémon Bank closes February 26, 2027. Find out what happens to Pokémon left in 3DS games, those deposited in Bank and the deadline for moving them to Pokémon HOME.

Your old game saves are not being wiped. The official bridge from many older Pokémon games to HOME is closing. On August 13, 2026, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon Bank and its HOME transfer feature would end February 26, 2027, at noon JST (03:00 UTC).

A Pokémon on a cartridge isn't a Pokémon in Bank

A Pokémon in a 3DS game's save stays with that game. The problem is getting it into modern generations later. Bank has been the official connecting service for many older titles. Pokémon already deposited in Bank need more urgent attention: the official notice tells players to transfer them to HOME before the shutdown. It offers no after-the-fact recovery route.

Bank and Poké Transporter have also been unavailable for new downloads since 2023. If you never installed them, you can't simply acquire them through the old official store procedure today.

Why players are upset about more than storage

In a September 20, 2026 Reddit post, one player described finding a childhood starter and their first shiny while reviewing old boxes. The thought that some teammates couldn't come along was genuinely painful. An August 13 discussion included a fan lamenting the loss of revisiting classic games, catching something new and sending it forward. These are specific player accounts, not a survey of all fans.

Pokémon offered a rare kind of continuity: a creature caught many years ago could still be your traveling companion today. Bank was less a closet than a connecting flight between childhood and adulthood.

How to prepare

Check whether Bank and, when needed, Poké Transporter are already installed and working on your 3DS. Transferring from Bank to HOME requires a Pokémon HOME Premium Plan. The move goes one way: HOME cannot send Pokémon back to Bank. Bank's Poké Miles don't transfer. Verify that your Pokémon actually arrived in HOME, then check which modern games accept them; HOME storage alone is not universal game compatibility.

Bottom line: The old adventure can stay on the old handheld. But the transfer train has a final departure, and no replacement has been announced.
