description: A practical Number Hunt guide for solo bots and private online matches: read 3–5 digit forehead codes, use binoculars and cover, correct your input, and eliminate rivals first.
The winning move
Spot the number on an opponent's forehead, remember every digit, and type the code before they identify yours. In Classic mode, the final digit submits automatically—there is no extra confirmation step stated for that mode. Stay harder to read by crouching, using cover, and looking downward.
From launch to your first elimination
Play free at Number Hunt. The game requires a desktop mouse and keyboard. You can practice against AI hunters without an account or host a private online room for up to ten people. For a first attempt, choose a three-digit code rather than jumping directly into five digits. This is a learning recommendation, not a proven winning preset.
| Situation | What to do | Expected effect / limitation | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| First practice | Choose AI hunters and a 3-digit setting | Fewer digits to memorize while learning movement | Official settings; recommendation inferred |
| Finding a target | Move with WASD and aim your view with the mouse | Bring the forehead into view | Official controls |
| Target is far away | Hold Q or the right mouse button | Use binoculars to scout the code | Official |
| Code is readable | Enter its digits using 0–9 | Classic submits on the last digit; beat the rival to eliminate them | Official |
| Wrong key | Press Backspace and correct the entry | Avoid leaving an incorrect digit in your input | Official controls |
| You are exposed | Hold C to crouch, use cover, and look down | Make your own forehead harder to inspect, not invisibly protected | Official |
| Equipment nearby | Press E to collect it | Number Shield hat adds defense; long-range scope helps scouting | Official |
| Friends want to join | Create a private room, share the code or link | Up to 10 players; map, digit count, duration, and bots are configurable | Official |
Controls and tactics
Shift sprints; Space jumps; Tab shows the leaderboard; Esc opens pause or menu. Hold C to crouch. Left Ctrl can also crouch under fullscreen keyboard protection, but C avoids browser shortcut problems in a window. If right-drag triggers a browser gesture, use Q for binoculars instead.
The key trade-off is visibility. You must expose yourself enough to read a forehead without presenting an easy view of your own. Approach from cover, identify an escape path, scout through binoculars, then enter the complete code promptly. At five digits, keeping the sequence in its original order matters more than rushing the first key. These are tactical suggestions derived from the published rules, not measured optimum strategies.
Troubleshooting
Cannot see the code? Change your viewing angle or distance, then hold Q. Keep getting spotted? Stop crossing open ground continuously; crouch behind cover and tilt your view downward. Mistyped a digit? Use Backspace. Found a hat or scope? Pick it up with E. Room settings include reveal distance, movement hiding, and dynamic blur, so compare matches only after checking the rules.
Bottom line and verification
See the code, retain the order, type first. Official instructions establish the elimination concept, controls, equipment, and Classic auto-submit. Exact visibility thresholds, numerical shield effects, final match ranking criteria, and independently reproduced wins were not verified.
