Description: Lawrence, also known as Frederic, takes first place: chapter 47 shows him defeating an anti-magic dragon through time control. Here is the eight-character ranking based on all 58 web episodes.

Lawrence Hartsfield—revealed as Frederic Allenhaust—is the strongest combatant shown. His victory in chapter 47 matters more than any formal mage rank: an anti-magic dragon becomes helpless once Lawrence manipulates time. Aria, the silent-spellcasting protagonist, earns third place through feats rather than reputation.

Full-story spoilers ahead. This ranks human and human-shaped fighters by what they could do before the events of chapter 54. Actual victories, speed, defense, extraordinary abilities and matchups matter more than examinations or festival scores. Not everyone fights everyone, so the order below includes a few reasoned calls rather than pretending the novel supplies an official ladder.

1. Lawrence Hartsfield / Frederic Allenhaust

A win against the creature built to stop magic. Asferios cripples spellcasting in its vicinity. Lawrence freezes time, accelerates his own, traps the dragon and ages it to death; he also reverses injuries suffered by companions. That is a level of battlefield control nobody else demonstrates. An ambush catches him in chapter 48, but it does not erase his chapter 47 feat. (Ch. 47, Ch. 48)

2. Lilia, the Saint of Light

The historical specialist against demons. Lilia used a costly kind of magic that devastated demonic enemies and ultimately sealed the Black Demon King at the price of her life. Her ceiling is tremendous, especially in this matchup. Second place reflects the lethal cost and the lack of a head-to-head fight with Lawrence, not a lack of power. (Ch. 50, Ch. 51)

3. Aria

The student who attacks from inside the armor. In chapter 43, Aria defeats a shell-armored beast that eight border guards struggle to hurt. In chapter 48, she neutralizes a rapidly regenerating demon with internal explosions. Yet she loses an earlier duel to Dante and gets overwhelmed by a fast wolf pack. Her versatility is extraordinary; her reactions are not flawless. (Ch. 20, Ch. 43, Ch. 44, Ch. 48)

4. The demon disguised as Bernardo’s assistant

The disguised assistant is a serious enemy. This demon ambushes Lawrence and survives wounds through regeneration. He is dangerous, resourceful and difficult to finish. His decisive defeat by Aria in chapter 48, however, keeps him below her. A successful backstab is not proof he wins a fair duel with Lawrence. (Ch. 48)

5. Dante, the academy headmaster

The headmaster has a documented victory. Dante uses plants and close-range magical interference to defeat young Aria in chapter 20, although she manages to graze his clothing. He earns a high place for defense and control, not his job title. That bout happened before Aria developed her later anti-monster methods. (Ch. 19, Ch. 20)

6. Bernardo, the veteran explorer

Experience is Bernardo’s weapon. He has undertaken more than a thousand dangerous expeditions and wins the two-person magic festival with 969 points. But that score measures a performance, not who survives a duel. Asferios overwhelms his group in chapter 46, leaving his exact position relative to Dante debatable. (Ch. 31, Ch. 32, Ch. 46)

7. Leon, the water-thread mage

Leon is terrifying when enemies come in packs. His fine water threads slice large rocks in chapter 37; in chapter 44, he takes down nine thunder wolves almost instantly after Aria cannot handle them all. He lacks a direct fight with the higher ranks, but his speed and crowd control are unambiguous. (Ch. 37, Ch. 44)

8. Victorica, the fire mage

Victorica makes fire magic count. She controls 14,641 fire petals on her own and burns two wolves that try to attack her allies from an unexpected angle. The spectacular 1,771,561-petal display and 951 points from chapter 32 belong to a joint spell with Aria, not Victorica’s solo output. (Ch. 26, Ch. 32, Ch. 44)

What about Asferios or the Black Demon King? The dragon is the story’s most convincing anti-mage monster, but this table compares human and humanoid fighters. The Demon King’s threat drives the plot; the story does not offer enough direct duels to position him precisely. Rankings among Dante, Bernardo and Leon remain open to matchup arguments.

The answer is Lawrence, then Lilia, then Aria. Chapter 47 settles the top spot through a concrete fight rather than a character saying somebody is legendary. The nicer twist is that Aria never needs the top position for her story to land: she chooses her own magic and her own voice-free life.
