Description: A Saber executive mentioned the Knights of the Old Republic remake in a potential 2028 lineup. The company's clarification tells a different story from a confirmed launch date.

2028 is a possibility, not an official release window for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake. In July 2026, Saber Interactive executive Steve Allison mentioned the project among games he hoped would be part of a 2028 lineup. Saber confirmed that his message was genuine but said it was not an official announcement of release targets.[2]

Where did the 2028 claim come from?

Allison was discussing Saber's plans to publish more of its own games. He named projects associated with Space Marine and John Wick and added the KOTOR remake with one important qualifier: “hopefully.” PC Gamer reported the comment on July 16 and checked its meaning with a company representative. A desired business lineup is not the same thing as a production milestone or a date players can plan around.[2]

There is firmer information about the project's existence. In March 2026, Saber's chief creative officer Tim Willits confirmed that development was continuing. “Still in development” answers part of the cancellation concern; it does not promise a 2028 launch.[2]

Why one word matters after five years

The remake was unveiled in September 2021. The original PlayStation announcement named Aspyr as its developer and described a ground-up rebuild intended to preserve the story and characters. The 2003 RPG takes place thousands of years before the original Star Wars films, with choices between the light and dark sides of the Force shaping the adventure.[1] Development changes and a long stretch without substantial footage help explain the uncertainty.[2]

In a July 2026 discussion on r/kotor, one player welcomed the possibility of 2028, while others focused on “hopefully” and worried about a possible slip to 2029. Those are documented individual reactions, not insider evidence of a delay or a measure of what all fans think.[3]

The next meaningful checkpoints are gameplay from the current team, a publisher-backed release window, and a firm date. Until then, 2028 belongs on a wish list rather than a vacation calendar. KOTOR lets you decide the fate of a galaxy; choosing the release year is apparently not one of the dialogue options.
