Description: Does the next Haikyu!! movie finish the whole manga, or only Karasuno's match with Kamomedai? Here is what the 2027 film and Fukurodani special actually cover, without major ending spoilers.
The 2027 film Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant has been announced around Karasuno versus Kamomedai, not as a confirmed adaptation of the manga's final chapter. A separate 2027 special follows Fukurodani versus Mujinazaka. Those announcements tell us which matches are coming next; they do not yet explain how the story beyond nationals will reach the screen.
Two matches, two productions
On December 22, 2025, animation studio Production I.G confirmed a 2027 release window for both the film and the special, Where Monsters Go. The movie pits Shoyo Hinata's Karasuno against Korai Hoshiumi's Kamomedai in the Spring High quarterfinals. The special turns to Kotaro Bokuto's Fukurodani and Mujinazaka, competing on that same day.
New concept art for the movie and footage for the special appeared on August 19, 2026. Susumu Mitsunaka is directing and writing, with Production I.G animating. Japan's announced release year is 2027; a specific opening day and territory-by-territory theatrical dates should be checked separately as of October 23.
Why manga readers worry about missing the ending
The 2024 film The Dumpster Battle compressed Karasuno's match against Nekoma into a theatrical experience. It delivered concentrated energy, but a movie has less room than a television season for sideline reactions, quieter conversations and the slow accumulation of character details.
In an August 19, 2026 discussion on r/anime, some viewers criticized the move from seasons to movies, while others wondered whether the manga material after this match would ever be adapted. One commenter took hope from the newly announced Fukurodani special and the move away from the earlier THE FINAL branding. These are identifiable individual reactions, not evidence of a fandom-wide consensus or of the studio's private intentions.
Nationals are not the manga's last page
The completed manga continues beyond the high-school tournament. That is why a film explicitly centered on one quarterfinal cannot automatically be treated as the complete ending. The parallel special fills out another match from the same stage of the tournament; it is not an announced adaptation of everything that comes afterward.
Could there eventually be another season, film or special? Any of those would be a possible format, but none should be presented as a confirmed follow-up. The story's major later developments are best left unspoiled for viewers waiting for the anime.
What future announcements can actually settle
Look for an official statement about the adaptation's endpoint, rather than trying to infer it from a poster. The film's runtime will help explain how much breathing room the Kamomedai match receives. Distribution details will also matter: a Japanese 2027 release window does not automatically establish the same opening date in every country.
There is a more interesting clue in the two-project structure. Instead of forcing Fukurodani's match into Karasuno's film as a quick detour, the production has given it a separate space. That suggests a focus on making each match land emotionally, although it promises nothing about later arcs.
Bottom line: The 2027 movie is the Little Giant showdown; the special is the Fukurodani match. The manga's ultimate ending remains a separate adaptation question. The title promises one enormous match, not that the entire future of Haikyu!! must fit inside it.
