A coyote is hunting at night, but its target is not a rabbit. It's a pear hanging from a tree. The first leap misses. The second catches the fruit. This trail-camera clip drew attention in reporting dated October 21–23, 2026.

What happened?

Outdoor TV personality Tom Miranda shared the Facebook reel captioned “Coyote eating pears!” Reports describe several coyotes near a tree. One looks up, jumps unsuccessfully, adjusts its position, then grabs a pear with its jaws and takes it away to eat. The camera reportedly displays September 25. That is not the October date on which the video spread, and the location and clock accuracy have not been independently verified.

The original reel is linked below. We could not play Facebook directly, so we compared Whiskey Riff's October 21 account, Smashology's October 22 verification and Know Your Meme's October 23 report.

What did people say?

Whiskey Riff reproduced a joke that meat prices were so high even coyotes were going vegetarian. Other reported comments expressed surprise about pears and praised a balanced diet. These are comments documented by that publication, not comments we independently retrieved from Facebook.

Coyotes are actually omnivores and eat fruit. The comedy comes from watching a predator deploy its hunting skills in what looks like the produce aisle.

Original sketch: forest supermarket

This exchange is fictional, not a real comment.

Clerk: “Pears are on the top shelf.” Coyote: “Isn't that too high?” Clerk: “Self-service.” Coyote: “I missed the first time.” Clerk: “Thanks for returning.” Coyote: “Where's the checkout?” Clerk: “Sir, this is a forest.”

Punchline

Show only the successful jump and the coyote is an elite athlete. Include the failed attempt and it's a shopper reaching for the last item on the top shelf. The coyote got dinner; the internet opened a grocery store.
