How training-model appointments work, what eyelash extensions do, and why cheap fat-loss procedures require a different cost calculation.
Why free salon appointments exist
A free haircut model is a real exchange: a trainee stylist gains practice while the volunteer provides time and hair. Listings may offer a zero-yen cut when the requested style, timing, and other conditions fit.[1] Regularly finding such opportunities can significantly reduce salon expenses.
The key is that you needed a haircut before you found the discount. Cosmetic medicine flips the question. Even at a spectacular price, you may think, “I never wanted this procedure.” A discount does not manufacture a need.
Three kinds of beauty trials
Training models cover haircuts, color, brows, eyelashes, and nails. Free appointments can require a specified hair length, time slot, first visit, or photographs. Mystery shopping can mean paying first and receiving points or reimbursement after a survey; caps and approval rules determine the real cost. Product testers may get free samples, often through a selection process.
Medical case models trade reduced fees for photography, promotional use, follow-up visits, or other commitments. Even a zero-price medical offer can carry physical and privacy costs.
What are eyelash extensions?
Extensions are artificial fibers attached to natural lashes with adhesive to make them look longer or fuller. A lash lift curls the existing lashes. Neither lasts permanently because lashes naturally shed and grow. Adhesives can irritate the eyes and surrounding skin.
A real Japanese price example
A Japanese platform displayed a TCB first-time offer on October 24, 2026: six moles or small skin lesions up to 2 mm removed for ¥4,880 in total, versus a listed ¥29,880 regular price. Local anesthesia and consultation were described as included. Booking availability, clinical suitability, final charges, scarring, and pigmentation risks still need checking.[2]
That works out to roughly ¥813 per spot. Wonderful arithmetic—unless you only wanted one spot treated. Removing extra lesions simply to use the package turns a coupon into an unnecessary procedure. A doctor should assess the lesions first.
URARA Clinic in Tokyo also advertises that some participants may qualify for zero treatment fees if they agree to photography, publicity, visits, and a combined weight-management program. It explicitly does not promise free care to everyone.[3]
Liposuction, fat freezing, and injections
Liposuction surgically removes localized fat cells. The removed cells stay removed, but later weight gain can still change body shape. Anesthesia, bleeding, infection, contour irregularities, and recovery matter.[5]
Medical fat freezing targets localized fat through controlled cooling. Visible changes can take weeks or months, and multiple treatments may be needed. The US FDA describes a rare complication in which the treated fat grows instead of shrinking.[4]
Fat-dissolving injections vary by formulation and body area. In September 2026 the FDA warned about severe adverse events involving use of a particular US-approved deoxycholic-acid injection outside the area under the chin. That is a specific US product warning, not a claim that every injection worldwide is identical.[6]
Weight-management medicines may require continuing treatment, while spa slimming sessions should not be mistaken for permanent medical removal of fat cells. Losing weight and changing the contour of one area are different goals.
Five questions before booking
Did you want this before the ad? What is the total including anesthesia, medication, transport, and follow-ups? Can a bad result be reversed? Where and for how long will photos appear? Is someone pushing you to sign today? Japan's consumer protection authority has reported cases in which cheap advertisements led to expensive contracts.[7]
The verdict
A free salon model solves a problem you already had. A discounted medical procedure can create a problem you never meant to solve.
The best discount on a procedure you don't want is not booking it.
