Your traffic counter hasn't moved in six hours. Did every reader abandon your site at once? Not necessarily. The counter may be broken, not the audience. A Worker that records page views can hit its usage limit while pages remain accessible.
Which number stopped?
Custom counters often send browser events through a Worker into a database. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page loads separately using a browser-side beacon. HTTP traffic analytics count requests, including traffic that isn't a page view. A broken cash register doesn't prove the café is empty.
Look at the live hostname
In Cloudflare, open Observability → Analytics → Web Analytics. Pick the production domain, not a preview address showing zero. Check Page views and Visits: one Visit may contain multiple page views. Narrow the last-24-hours chart to the outage period and confirm the time zone. The browser beacon needs a page to load; failed loading attempts aren't guaranteed to show up as views.
Connect the official Cloudflare MCP
- In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins.
- Choose + → Add custom MCP server, if your account offers it.
- Enter https://mcp.cloudflare.com/mcp.
- Choose OAuth and authorize at Cloudflare.
- Grant the narrowest relevant read permissions.
- Install, enable and select the connection in your conversation.
MCP lets an assistant use external tools. OAuth avoids pasting passwords into chat, and Cloudflare hosts the server for you.
Ask an exact question
Try: “For example.com, check Page views and Visits from October 13, 2026 at 4:54 p.m. JST until October 14 at midnight JST. Show the hostname, time zone, source and whether the query actually succeeded. If the API cannot return exact Web Analytics PV, say so; don't substitute HTTP requests.”
Being authenticated isn't the same as successfully reading a metric. Check available datasets and permissions. If ChatGPT doesn't see the connection, revisit the plugin list or select it in a new conversation.
Don't mix units
A seven-day custom counter and a 24-hour Cloudflare chart aren't directly subtractable. Page views ≠ Visits ≠ HTTP requests. What matters is whether readers loaded pages after the counter froze and whether the website itself returned errors.
Check the real domain, connect MCP, ask for the exact period—and don't hold a funeral for your site just because the scoreboard went dark.
