Conclusion
Apita Yokkaichi, inside Tonarie Yokkaichi, is not just a supermarket.
The building stacks Apita food and restaurants on 1F, Don Quijote on 2F, Kojima x Bic Camera on 3F, Surugaya and Seria on 4F, GiGO on 5F, and 109 Cinemas on 6F.[1][2][3]
In other words, it is a vertical entertainment machine: supermarket → discount store → electronics → hobby store → arcade → cinema.
If you ask, “Where should I eat?”, there are real answers: Chen-san, a mapo-specialty restaurant; Wakashachiya for curry udon; and Nigiri no Tokubei for sushi.[4][5][6]
Then you walk through the grocery floor and see several 20%-off items.[OBS]
The whole decision tree crashes.
We were comparing restaurants. Suddenly, “Why not just buy these?” becomes the strongest option.
Supermarket deli: final boss unlocked.
1. The building itself is the attraction
Tonarie’s official directory lists, on 1F, Apita Food plus Fujiya, Sugakiya, DONQ/Mini One, KFC, Mister Donut, Nigiri no Tokubei, Wakashachiya, Chen-san, Saint Marc Cafe, Starbucks, Wakuwaku Hiroba and more.[1]
Higher floors add Don Quijote, Kojima x Bic Camera, Seria, Surugaya, GiGO, Saizeriya and 109 Cinemas.[1]
109 Cinemas Yokkaichi supports 4DX.[3] GiGO offers crane, medal, rhythm, video, card and other arcade games.[2]
You can leave home saying, “I’m going to Apita,” and somehow return after gaming and a movie.
That is not a supermarket. That is a weekend vacuum wearing an Apita badge.
2. If you want a proper sit-down meal, three options stand out
Mapo Specialty Restaurant Chen-san
A 1F Chinese restaurant focused on mapo dishes: tofu, eggplant, glass noodles, beef tendon and more. A non-spicy Cantonese-style option is also listed.[4]
Hours are 11:30–15:00 and 17:00–21:00, closed on the third Monday of each month. Cash only.[4]
It is the obvious pick when you want something more distinctive than a familiar chain.
Wakashachiya
The Tokai-region curry-udon option. Weekdays: 11:00–15:00 and 17:00–22:00; weekends/holidays: 11:00–22:00.[5]
It is less “tourist landmark” and more “quickly inject some Tokai flavor.”
Nigiri no Tokubei
A 1F conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. The official listing highlights seasonal fish, side dishes and takeaway sushi. Hours: 10:30–21:30, last order 21:00.[6]
Choose this when you want the feeling of actually going out for dinner, not merely assembling food.
3. Then the grocery floor flips the table
Apita Food on 1F is open 9:00–22:00.[7] The official page advertises Tuesday specials and a 5% member discount on the 9th, 19th and 29th of each month for eligible UCS/majica users.[7]
The grocery floor also includes the fish specialist Uoyu. A January 2026 Tonarie feature describes market buying and in-store preparation. Example prices published there included a 10-piece sushi set at ¥1,059 and a five-item sashimi assortment at ¥843.[8]
Those prices were explicitly dated January 6, so they are examples, not guaranteed current prices.[8]
On the visit behind this article, several products were marked 20% off.[OBS]
That observation is not a permanent schedule. Discount timing, products and stock can vary.
But when the stickers are physically in front of you, they matter.
4. Why 20% off can beat waiting for half price
Discount shopping easily turns into a contest for the biggest sticker.
“Only 20%? Why not wait for 50%?”
Because the discount rate is not the only cost.
Waiting adds time. Desired items may sell out. Choice shrinks. You may need to check the store again. You may end up buying something worse.
A 20% discount can occupy a useful middle ground: still plenty of choice, already meaningfully cheaper.
A ¥1,000 item becomes ¥800. Half price would be ¥500, but there is no guarantee the same item survives until then.
If the goal is not “win the maximum discount” but get what you actually want, cheaper, now, 20% off can be perfectly rational.
Otherwise dinner becomes a competitive sport.
5. When discounted deli food beats a restaurant
The supermarket does not win only on price.
It wins on combinability.
You can mix sushi, fish, fried food, salad, bread and dessert without committing to one restaurant’s menu. You can take it home and stop spending time on seating, ordering and waiting.
Restaurants still win when the dish itself is the point: freshly cooked mapo, curry udon, or sushi made for immediate service.
So the real split is simple:
Want a specific dish → restaurant.
Want variety, lower cost, speed and flexibility → grocery floor.
You ask, “Which restaurant is best?” The supermarket answers, “Why choose one restaurant at all?”
6. And there is still plenty to do after eating
Upstairs: Don Quijote, Kojima x Bic Camera, Surugaya, Seria, GiGO, and 109 Cinemas.[1]
Surugaya Yokkaichi advertises more than 300,000 items.[9] GiGO is open 10:00–21:00 and covers many arcade categories.[2]
109 Cinemas sits on 6F and offers 4DX.[3]
“I only came to buy dinner” becomes less believable with every floor.
7. The practical route
Do not decide on a restaurant before entering.
- Scan the 1F grocery floor first.
- Check discounted items, sushi, sashimi and deli food.
- If nothing wins, switch to mapo, curry udon or sushi.
- After eating, go upstairs.
- Lose time at GiGO or Surugaya. If you end up at the cinema, accept defeat.
Grocery floor first. Restaurant second.
That is the efficient way to use Tonarie Yokkaichi.
8. Parking validation: one last side quest before going home
There is one final trap for drivers.
Tonarie Yokkaichi officially gives up to two free parking hours for purchases of ¥150–999 on floors 1–4, and up to three hours for purchases of ¥1,000 or more. The discount ticket must be obtained at a store register or service counter.[10]
On this visit, after saying “I don’t need the receipt,” the parking validation was not processed. Only after shopping was finished did the realization arrive: “Wait, I bought something. I really do not want to pay for parking.” That created a backtrack to the 1F service counter.[OBS2]
This should not be generalized into a rule that “declining a receipt automatically declines parking service.” The official site does not establish that causal rule; it is simply what happened in this transaction.
As UX, however, it is perfect comedy:
Shopping finished. Dinner secured. Time to leave.
…Parking-validation side quest incomplete.
The 1F Apita service counter is officially listed, so there is a recovery point.[11] It just feels much farther away once your brain has already switched into “go home” mode.
If driving, the shortest move is to ask for parking service during checkout.
Notes
Discount stickers and timing are a one-visit observation, not a guaranteed daily rule.[OBS] Waiting purely for deeper discounts brings stock and selection risk.
