A Canadian movie theater displayed a hand-drawn Spider-Man poster because the official one hadn't arrived. Its intentionally clumsy look reminded viewers of Spoderman, an old internet parody whose entire appeal is looking gloriously wrong.
The scene was Prince George, British Columbia, in August 2026. A staff member used markers to create substitute artwork for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He later told Reddit that shipping problems had left the theater without a proper poster and that a manager asked him to draw one.
Spoderman, also spelled Spooderman, dates to around 2012. Think distorted superhero proportions, silly facial features and deliberate spelling mistakes. It's Spider-Man as remembered by someone who glanced at him three seconds ago.
A local radio station put a photograph on Facebook on August 8, and a Reddit movie community shared it on August 11. Some commenters wanted their own print, while others enjoyed the drawing more than polished advertising. The artist later said the theater's head office requested its removal.
The punchline: the professional poster missed its delivery, but the emergency doodle delivered the attention. Sometimes the least heroic-looking Spider-Man gets the best entrance.
