A Japanese meme about tapping alternating blue areas to punch Shanks inspired a phone-friendly fan game with optional music. Here is how the joke escalated.

The strangest possible mobile-game announcement

Shanks is one of the most imposing figures in One Piece: the red-haired pirate captain admired by Luffy, and one of the Four Emperors.

So naturally, someone announced on October 19, 2026, that they had made it easier to punch Shanks on your smartphone.

That is the entire pitch. Not sail with Shanks. Not train alongside Shanks. Punch him. More conveniently than before.

The creator also said the web game could play music. Apparently the fictional pirate needed a better-supported punching environment, complete with a soundtrack.

Where did the joke come from?

The announcement quoted an earlier Japanese post inviting users to press two blue areas alternately to punch Shanks. The premise was gloriously bare-bones: left punch, right punch, repeat.

A line attached to the earlier meme said the activity had become a daily morning ritual.

Coffee. Breakfast. Check your messages. Punch an Emperor of the Sea.

The humor starts with how casually an absurd action is presented as a perfectly ordinary part of the day. It is a fan-made internet joke, not an event from the One Piece storyline or an officially announced One Piece release.

Then a developer treated the joke like a product request

According to the October 19 post, an independent game creator made a version that could be used easily on phones, shared a browser link, and added a music option.

These are sensible improvements to a small web game. The nonsensical part is the goal they serve.

“Mobile support” normally means helping people shop, learn, or organize their lives. Here it means removing friction between your finger and Shanks's fictional face.

The post describes these features; this article has not independently tested the game or its controls.

The joke gets funnier with every upgrade

There are three beats to the story. First comes a crude left-right tapping gag. Second comes someone who says they do it every morning. Third comes an actual developer, apparently deciding that this activity deserves its own phone-friendly experience.

Nobody in that chain needs to provide a serious reason for punching Shanks. Instead, the infrastructure keeps improving.

And that contrast matters. The official One Piece character profile presents Shanks as a revered pirate captain. The meme treats him like the target of a very specific touchscreen routine.

The more professionally the activity is packaged, the more ridiculous the original idea becomes.

A viral number is not a player count

The displayed X post showed about 2.293 million views in the material shared on October 19, 2026. That is a time-specific view counter, not evidence that millions played the game.

The hook works because one sentence contains everything: a famous, powerful fictional character; an oddly mundane action; and a technological “improvement” nobody knew they needed.

In the story, Shanks commands enormous respect. On the internet, he receives software updates aimed at making him easier to punch.

Four Emperor status. One-tap customer experience.
